Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

The last rootfs is fine (but if you have an old install, then probably it is wrong). It was fixed around the page 45-46 of this topic, if you want to look for more info. I guess you need to update...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

I guess you may need to use alsamixer. Why do you say 'no sound'? Because you are trying to play a wave file (using what command)? There are no devices in alsamixer? Alsa throws errors?

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

You should change one thing in the way you ask for help - do not limit yourself to simple message "does not work". We need some more informations to help you. It is much better when you write "I...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

Do you have Xephyr for Maemo? Anyway, you can run it as usual:
Xephyr :2 &
DISPLAY=:2 startxfce4
Probably you do not need to run Xephyr at all, just try to run 'export DISPLAY=:0' and then run...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

Wifi should work out-of-the-box, did you use wifi-menu? Or rather - what is wrong?
BTW: do you use IRC? I would rather help you on #maemo-alternatives@irc.freenode.net, not to make too much offtopic...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

That's very strange, as I did the same thing right now, and there is no asking for password. Are you sure that you have edited /etc/shadow from the Arch rootfs (and not from Maemo)?

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

In my opinion the easiest way is to mount the Arch rootfs in Maemo and edit /etc/shadow. Find the line that contains your username (should be sth like that):...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

I just tried it out and it works fine for me (at least boot/login). For me it seems that this is the kernel related problem. What is the last message that you can see? Do you use 3.5.7.5?

edit: I...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

@caveman
Is not it solved in the way Skry mentioned?

Or what do you exactly mean by a broken system?

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

Here you can find 3.8 & 3.9 kernels:
https://gitorious.org/linux-n900/linux-n900
but they may be missing some hardware support - I do not know the details.

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

You may use the newest power-kernel, it supports ext4. Ext3 works (I'm using it right now), but your config file is wrong. I do not know if you installed Arch on internal memory or on SD card, but...

Re: Arch Linux ARM on N900

@pinsh
These errors are completely normal besides this one:
EXT4-fs (mmcblkp0p4): unable to read superblock

And as you already mentioned - you know why it is shown. To fix it, you need to update...
