Re: Purism Librem Phone

You'd think they would end up using ofono+rilplugin anyway, which jolla contributes upstream to, is there actually an alternative?

Re: Matrix - clients

Ignore the 'app not responding' message, and just wait. Works for me anyway :D

Re: Matrix - clients

The guys working on the client library are doing encryption at the moment, they're also working with Matrix.org and Purism for the librem5 project so maybe they'll end up making a daemon of some kind...

Re: Matrix - clients

I'm not quite on the latest commit so i'll rebuild and see if anything is broken

EDIT: Yeah i see the problem, the label property is wrong for the updated client library, so the room items are...

Re: Matrix - clients

Is that account in any rooms? mine is and I have rooms on that screen

You can also join a room using the text field, but you need to use the full room id eg. #matrix:matrix.org

Re: The new QWERTY device project

Generally speaking I find this forum to be reasonably technically minded, as such there's usually no reason to simplify things to the point where they become inaccurate.

Re: The new QWERTY device project

Chill olf, Chen isn't an idiot and knows the costs of developing a custom PCB.

You also seem to be misunderstanding exactly how the device adaptation process goes, generally speaking the OEM will...

Re: The new QWERTY device project

Seconded, remaining focused on the goal here (create a beautiful modern keyboard slider device) is already tough enough without adding in extra compromises to get full mainline compatibility.

Re: SailfishX NFC support

Ok so I was investigating this a bit further and it looks like there is minimal kernel support for the NXP pn547 NFC Chip in these devices, basically just enough to get the thing initialised but not...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Theres a large amount of buzz around the Industrial Internet of Things at the moment, and I'm sure QCom bought NXP to get a piece of that market. It takes a lot of time and effort to bring a new SoC...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

They're a long way off 'too successful' imo.

What we're seeing at the moment is a few open source projects trying to capitalise on the hype of the project, and thats about it.

Re: SailfishX NFC support

You can do bluetooth pairing over NFC, but *requiring* it sounds like a terrible idea.

Re: SailfishX NFC support

I built Neard (https://01.org/linux-nfc) which should support the NXP chip on these sony devices as well as having QtNFC support, but I haven't yet managed to get it to actually do something useful

Re: Purism Librem Phone

What annoys me the most is that a Spotify developer made a rather awesome looking SailfishOS client during his 20% time, and they wouldnt let him release it...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Chill, judging from the config they're intending for it to load modules, i mean all these file system ones are configured as modules at least, but no CONFIG_MODULES=y so I'm not 100% sure whether it...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

The mass market is already owned by gigantic players with large sums of money to burn and a huge head start, so instead you find a niche and stick to it.

I don't think purism have any intention of...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Guys guys, I don't think we really need to enumerate all the failings on Android here :P

However this Purism thing turns out it's going to be a very different type of thing to an Android phone...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I imagine they will try their best to make PureOS work well on it, but from what I gather they do this the other way around; They pick hardware that works well with available software, rather than...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Software doesn't really seem to be their thing, and indeed by the looks of it they aren't trying to go for an integrated product type of smartphone at all.

Realistically this is probably ok, if...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

One of these days that excuse is going to wear thin, if they want to play with the big boys then excuses like that won't serve them.

Re: SailfishOS on Sony Z3 Compact Tablet

Certainly Sailfish OS looks great on this device, and being an armv7 device you dont have that problem where all the apps need recompiling into x86 to run, you've just got the usual display scaling...
