It is even worse than that, it is mce that listens for power key state changes and calls systemui (tklock) on its discretion. So, AIUI, you should either listen to powerkey events and process them...

BTW i am using "power lock" that disable lock screen ,only you have to press onetime power key and your phone unlocked!
