Re: The Mighty N900 Week 2016(Day 3 of 7)

I did some research on this a while back and I believe I can flash to Singapore firmware to enable the FM transmitter. But with the demise of Nokia and OVI store etc, I didn't really want to reflash...

Re: The Mighty N900 Week 2016(Day 4 of 7)

Does anybody still use phone numbers stored on sim card? It's so ridiculously limited - 12(?) characters for the name, and that is all you can store, just the name, no email, no address, no nothing....

Re: The Mighty N900 Week 2016(Day 3 of 7)

I don't mean to say that the 808 is inferior to the N900. It's just that with my setup the 808 sends music via BT to cheap device, cheap device processes the signal and transmit it via FM, the double...

Re: Softbank buys ARM

Softbank sold $Billions of Alibaba shares recently, that should go some way towards the Arm purchase.

Re: The Mighty N900 Week 2016(Day 3 of 7)

Still using it daily as a utility device - IR remote control, podcasts, fm transmitter music player for car (although recently I purchased a cheap lighter socket bluetooth handsfree FM transmitter...

Re: Multitasking on Android

Calendar on the 808 has a back button that removes it from the open apps list. Music Player's back button does not remove it from the open apps list (which is probably the expected behaviour since...

Re: Multitasking on Android

I beg to differ. Most do have an Exit option. Especially the older ones. Even on my 808 many of built-in applications have Exit - Mail, Store, Music Player, etc.

Some apps have 3 ways to close

Re: Random reboots

This happens on my N900 as well. I would say roughly 1 in 5 "Switch off!" results in "Reboot". I switch off N900 to replace dead battery because I haven't soldered my USB connector yet and hence use...

Re: What to do when /opt gets full?

I've got email dating back to sometime last century (~1997) which was originally in Outlook then got imported into KMail when I ditched Windows at around 1999. When the KDE peeps decided to push out...

Re: What to do when /opt gets full?

I would be pretty p'ed off if my mail client had to be online to be able to reread mail that I had already previously downloaded and read.

Re: What the hell??? M$ joins Eclipse!?!?!

Yes finally. With Hotmail, Skype and Bing they have, to some extent, credible alternatives that people can move over to if they're not happy with MS' offerings. With Windows the vast majority of...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

Any non-native solution will incur some inefficiency and consume more resources.

Yes and yes. But in my case I only have 1GB of ram. I believe Linux Deploy is set to stay in memory so that...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

I have Linux Deploy on my (rooted) tablet and have debian installed on it. There are 3 choices for display:

VNC
X Window System
Frame Buffer

I've only really used the VNC option (which means...

Re: Nokia’s Return To The Smartphone Market: Officially Confirmed

The above is the only stuff that's needed, the rest that you listed are unnecessary distractions (and indeed Nokia had already attempted some of them in the form of the short-lived Ovi)

For me the...

Apparently that depends on where you're ordering from, I just checked and there's no "No Windows" option for me. The only thing I can customise is which of the expensive extended warranty packages...

Re: [Announce] MihPhoto a photo viewer

Wouldn't that be more difficult to implement than sliding along the edges of the screen? Sliding along the edges should be pretty easy to detect and program, besides swirling looks silly :)
