Re: First N900 Review
The touchpad on my budget / performance Asus notebook does that just fine. Actually, MANY Synaptic touchpads support multi finger gestures; it's just that their Windows drivers are useless. In Linux,...

Re: First N900 Review
I sure hope that LED indicator is visible from the side. It's one of my favourite features about the N810; being able to glance into my pocket and know instantly whether I have messages.

Re: Does Free Fail?
Personally, I think the surrounding infrastructure is what makes this difficult in Maemo land. Hopefully, come Harmattan (or whatever it is...), Maemo will have its entire development pipeline...

Re: RX-51 Tablet picture released at Engadget
Same thought here. I won't pay for a GSM radio that I'm never going to use, unfortunately.
I am interested in seeing how much of that front face is the screen, but judging by the Nokia logo and...

Re: Blender 3D on Debian
For basic modelling, Wings3d might work as it has a considerably simpler interface and much lower overhead. (I used to run it smoothly on a Celeron 433 MHz with Intel i810 graphics).

Re: Why MIDs have yet to soar
It's rather incredible how misguided MIDs are, up to now. Make them about three quarters of their current size and they'll be reasonably pocketable, or at least attractively thin. (There's lots of...

Re: Reactions from people out in the wild...
My physics teacher let me use a Nintendo DS as a TI-83, before I had an N810. It was lighter, faster, cheaper and generally just smarter.
Joke's on him, though: I was actually running a TI-85...

Re: N900 specs revealed
As I feared: the 3G modem made them phonify it. Small screen + dumbed down keyboard renders the device identical to exisiting competitors like the iPhone, G1 (+ its undoubtedly nice successor) and...

Moblin 2 works beautifully on netbooks (just test drove it!) and should cooperate on one of those mystical "MIDs" :)

Re: Maemo Mapper Idea - Map Builder
I have some goodies for you!
First of all, check out OpenStreetMap.org. It's a collaborative mapping project. A really successful one, and Maemo Mapper can download maps from their service :)

Re: Mer: User contributed artwork...
Looks like it's sinking, dragged into the water by one of Apple's hand models. (Really, they must have an army of them).
In fairness, though, it is also a really nice bit of graphics work :)

I'm rather happy with GPE, really. Actively developed, open source project, mature, synchronizing it with my Linux desktop is reasonably easy with opensync (though not as easy as with PalmOS for some...

I like to think of the device on the same terms as any other computer I buy. It's a reasonable bunch of hardware with which I can do whatever I want because Nokia is fairly open with it and provides...

Google Docs works sorta reasonably on the tablet's browser.
The lack of a voice notes app is absurd. The device's microphone is awesomely decent. One doesn't exist, but the chance of one being good...

The truth is, Apple doesn't actually have ridiculously brilliant (eg: best in industry) UI designers. They are good, and they know how to make things pretty, but the only way they can come up with to...
