From the QML Components post it seems clear that if you want MeeGo users to find your UI familiar then you should follow the UI design guidelines, whether you're using native or QML....

Wow, that says it all. We're coming at this from very different perspectives.

Personally I see this as an extremely dangerous attitude coming from a very flawed analysis of the mobile app...

Yes, but 1 year from now Symbian^4 devices will only just be shipping, I'm assuming Maemo 6 is intending to be out slightly ahead of that. So it doesn't really matter what version of Qt the firmware...
