Re: installing Easy Debian v0.9.56-1fremantle1on nokia n900

Off topic, but has anyone else also chuckled over "fapman"? :D

Re: installing Easy Debian v0.9.56-1fremantle1on nokia n900

The version of your wmctrl is different. Note 1.07-5 in Extras versus your 1.07-6.
(OK, I checked the i386 build yesterday by mistake but the armel build is identical, as verified today.)

The key...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Thanks, sulu. I was referring specifically to the three I quoted.
I was under the impression that Galileo was still under development, apparently I was mistaken.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Wow. You have lockups? Haven't seen one of those for years! :D
(JP-1 here, that must be making all the difference)

Re: installing Easy Debian v0.9.56-1fremantle1on nokia n900

I second peterleinchen's post. I do not have my N900 with me but I have just checked files in http://repository.maemo.org/ manually in a random Linux box and...

Re: Latest And Greatest!

Back in the late 1990s, I read an article in some computing magazine where the author argued that command line is more intuitive than a GUI. Their main evidence was a simple experiment. They sat a...

Re: GPD Pocket

Yes, the product being "Fedora 28 on GPD Pocket". Or even "Linux on GPD Pocket".
With "KDE" or "Gnome" making the same difference as the colour in my Fiesta example.

Some people, especially those...

Re: WhoGo Maps

I had a similar problem. It was the underlying cause of what I reported (https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1543092#post1543092) earlier.

The real reason is that my car is a bit slow at...

I second that. I was just trying to send you a donation but you do not make it exactly easy :(

Exactly!

Isn't becoming commonplace the ambition of every new thing?

Re: GPD Pocket

I know, and agree it is better. I was referring to the default option: if scrolling text is switched off, then present something else instead.

Re: GPD Pocket

I know the reasons behind that. But when I am given something that calls itself an official ISO image for a specific device, I expect it to be tuned for that device and work on that device out of the...

Re: GPD Pocket

You and I have very different ideas of the meaning of the word "fantastically".

Mine is admittedly a second-hand device and it is possible that the previous owner did not set it up optimally. It...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

I know. That was the point. Downloading them one at a time, rather than all 15 in one go.

I should have included one step, purging the cache: Unsubscribe - purge - update - subscribe (and...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

@MartinK, convenient packaging and polishing up are two different things. Even "works for me" can be, and often is, delivered through package managers like Openrepos. That's all I asked for.

I...

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

I've heard about that, but I have yet to come across a web site that does that on my Jolla phone. Even eBay works fine, albeit a bit slow - unlike on my daughter's Android tablet with similar specs...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

Thanks, rinigus. It was just a suggestion, definitely not a priority.

One possible workaround for the user is quite simple. Unsubscribe from all but one, update, subscribe again one at a time.

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

I expect that to be simply because the maps have grown, not because of the fragmenting. I just updated all my maps (15 areas, including Germany already fragmented before the update) and the total...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Well, tough. Joe Public hates the "just recompile the kernel" attitude. Make it a nice "app" (you can call it something else if you do not like the word), presented to you in a nice GUI and...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

And that is supposed to be somehow better? Really?

I would take "an app" any time. For all I care, the "app" may well be a kernel module, as long as it is nicely wrapped and installable through...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

That's exactly it. Overlapping. I had a similar problem. Downloading maps for Germany, I had to do that one state at a time. But then the total space taken on the memory card was much smaller than...
