Re: WhoGo Maps fork looks for name and visual identity

How did I miss this post? If I could give you a thousand thanks I would.

Re: WhoGo Maps fork looks for name and visual identity

It means at least two things. One of them is quite acceptable :)

Re: WhoGo Maps fork looks for name and visual identity

Or follow the traditional Linux naming convention (mutt, pine, vi, apache, ant, git, xxd, anjuta...) and make up a name that has nothing to do and gives no indication of what the application is for.

Re: Who is still interested in Neo900?

Here is where we disagree. For the record, I do not believe that this project will ever see the light of day, but if it ever did, then it would definitely be a step towards an open mobile. A step...

Yes, of course. It was early in the morning, I was not yet fully alert and missed the tiny detail that you are not Osmo :o

How about WhereYouGo, then? ;)

Re: WhoGo Maps fork looks for name and visual identity

How about getting an inspiration from Patchmanager and others and naming it very imaginatively, WhoGo 2? ;)

Re: Who is still interested in Neo900?

Absolutely! And, to avoid any confusion, it will have a hard case made from, you've guessed it, aluminium! Milled in a handmade milling machine with custom parts ordered from China.

You could...

I can hardly agree more.

Re: Help needed with reflashing N900 because of virus

I am also and owner of (several) N900 since 2012.

I also worked for an anti-virus company for 15 years in the past, most of that in the virus detection engine development team. The interaction...

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9

No, that is not what juiceme was saying at all. Please read his post again. He was merely pointing out the word 'native' in Anatolian's post. Sailfish on the N9 is just as native as Meego, i.e....

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Man, please stop teasing me. I had to spend a lot of money on new glasses just last week, I really cannot afford a new toy.

Re: It's the final countdown!

Of course! All my examples are simulations for the purpose of creating an alternative version of our own reality. That is the usual application of simulation. To make it easier, faster, cheaper or...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Put in a single sentence, "an experiment is a simulation when the subject exists in a different reality than the observer."

Re: It's the final countdown!

I am nowhere near as eloquent as you are, but I can try clarifying what I mean by giving an example.

Re: It's the final countdown!

I am not a philosopher, but to me, there is a crucial difference between an experiment running in a lab and a simulation. In the former, the subjects being observed exist in the same reality as the...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Hacking the simulation from inside is tricky. You run into all sorts of halting problems and the like. Rowhammer and similar may look like they are hacking from inside but in reality they are doing...

That is why I said "ancients", endso. The "painted ceiling" idea dates at least to ancient Greece. You may also notice that I deliberately avoided mentioning flat earth, since that the earth is round...

Re: It's the final countdown!

I like the idea of an evolving simulation. The ancients believed that stars were dots painted on the dome covering the earth because that is what they really were. They believed that the earth was a...

What are you on about, Dave? Natural selection applies everywhere. Young, old, alive or dead. Why do you think we have a duopoly of just two mobile OSes? Natural selection!

Even if the dominant...

Re: It's the final countdown!

You are not my wife, you are an imposter. Otherwise you would have known that "whatever I do" has nothing to do with it. Everything is my fault, not only the narrow range of things that I do :D
