while applying this cmd "gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool false" stops the autorotate of the task manager and menu, when using the phone app in portrait and then going...

really? I really think it's user error. If it's a low light condition, then the camera's software is going to compensate whether the back cover is on or not. Most phone cameras aren't able to...

try this

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool false

it will disable rotation @ app menu and task manager but your phone app should be able to go portrait.

Is there a way to disable the portrait task manager? I am asking because if I use the orientation lock it locks my phone app in landscape which I want in portrait mode.
