Actually inserting a SIM card does a lot of things, the power spike caused by PA is not the only drain on the system.
And remember that the device can also register to the network without a SIM card...

Nothing wrong with nodejs, it's fully a server-side technique so you get to pretty much decide what gets rendered on the browser :)
