Re: Quim keynote on Maemo's switch to Qt as the main toolkit

As a KDE developer: That's incorrect. While the Plasma desktop shell does support widgets "in the web run-time sense" (it has support for Apple Dashboard widgets, which are written in HTML/CSS and...

Re: Quim keynote on Maemo's switch to Qt as the main toolkit

The PyQt situation is interesting because unlike Qt, it's not LGPL yet. I'm sorta expecting Nokia to buy Riverbank any minute now, though.

Re: Quim keynote on Maemo's switch to Qt as the main toolkit

If you go to the Moblin website and look at their architecture diagram, you'll notice that it does feature Qt, yes: http://moblin.org/documentation/moblin-overview/moblin-core

Moblin is not...

Re: Quim keynote on Maemo's switch to Qt as the main toolkit

Yeah, sure, this is obviously the strategy here - being able to tell developers that using Qt, they can target Symbian and Maemo devices with the same codebase. And the motivation behind the...

Re: Quim keynote on Maemo's switch to Qt as the main toolkit

One of the major reasons Fremantle won't run on Maemo 4 devices is the lack of OpenGL support on those devices, as Fremantle makes use of the clutter OpenGL scene graph library for its user...

Re: Is there a wy to rightclick

I had some hope the keylaunch thing might work for him, i.e. that such a fake mouse button event would cause the right stuff to happen within Tear/WebKit.

Implementing my Tear wish on the other...

Re: Is there a wy to rightclick

Did you try this (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=188742&highlight=keylaunch#post188742)?

I also filed this wish (http://bugs.bundyo.org/viewissue.php?issue_no=43&) for Tear a while ago.

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

Well ... ;)

Ok ok, I'll shut up until I figure out the steps to reproduce :).

Another small annoynce is tapping and holding a scrollbar arrow button to scroll opening the context menu.

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

Sorry, I can't define it any better than I did. It works sometimes and sometimes not. It breaks along the way. Sometimes it never works to begin with. I don't see the pattern yet, but it's certainly...

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

(Though sadly it still doesn't work reliably with the N810's hw keyboard in 0.3.1-2 - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.)

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

I've actually noticed that ever since I've started using Tear, my N810 will sometimes burn through its battery even with no program running and no open WLAN connection. I've hesitated to bring this...

Re: flash player 10 support

Most vendors would certainly think of providing a version of their pages using these new technologies if there was a significant audience they could not reach any other way. Right now that audience...

Re: flash player 10 support

I agree that good authoring tools are sadly a far less solved problem than the runtime part of the equation, yes. More work needs to be done in that area for sure. That said, I think a lot of...

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

Something which has been annoying me for a while: When displaying a larger-than-viewport image file in Tear, tapping it will cycle between 100% zoom and zoom-to-fit. Unfortunately, dragging the 100%...

... which is exactly why Flash is a bad thing: A proprietary technology with a huge market share controlled by a single vendor who thus gets to control what people can use to browse the web. Instead...

@TrueJournals: .sis and .sisx are the file extensions for Symbian application packages; the "ou" was supposed to be "or" I guess.

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

BTW, the Ctrl+C/V stuff in the address bar is still spotty, even with 0.3.1-2. So far I've been unable to put my finger on in which set of circumstances it works and when it doesn't, though, sadly.

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

Meh, given that Nokia has stopped supporting Diablo, some scheme probably needs to be found for the community to update it anyway (yes, this is essentially what Mer is doing, but it's still some way...

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

Personally, I wouldn't mind having to upgrade a major library, given that it's linked to enabling the major purpose of the tablet (web browsing). What more valid reason could there be to upgrade a...

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

The whole static linking approach certainly doesn't sound very attractive ... Tear keeping (and loading into memory) its own copy of glib wouldn't exactly scream resource efficiency either.

Re: Tear 0.3.1 - a would be beta WebKit based browser

Maybe :). Why do you use curl, then? Sorry, I'm not really familiar with the landscape - KHTML uses KDE's own HTTP implementation and cookie store.
