Re: The $20 unlimited data plan

I'd love to but I don't know anything about it beyond the website. Has anyone tried out Skype or Gizmo on the tablet while on the Sprint network?

I'm honestly thinking of getting this 2 year...

Re: The $20 unlimited data plan

Verhagke,
I have an n810. You're right that it would be a 2 year contract, and you'd need to buy a phone through them, but they have subsidized phones in the $30 range for new customers.

Re: Where's the bottleneck in tethering?

This all might be moot if I can find a faster data plan. I mentioned it in the thread at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=7036&page=9 but it's relevant here, as well. Sprint has a data-only...

Re: The $20 unlimited data plan

Old thread here, but I just found out about Sprint Relay (sprintrelay.com), which offers unlimited data for $30/month, with pricey per minute voice cost. It's supposedly 3G. Is it feasible to...

Re: Where's the bottleneck in tethering?

Nope, that's it. I haven't tried through my router, but I just assumed this was something the cell providers do to keep the network traffic low.

Re: Where's the bottleneck in tethering?

Sorry about that. I'm just not sure what info is important.

I'm not sure about the connection type. I went to speedtest.net through my phone and got 0.63 Mb/s down and 2.34 Mb/s up.

Where's the bottleneck in tethering?

Here's my setup:
I have an n810 which I can tether via bluetooth to my Kyocera Strobe/Switchback (same device, different names), which is on the Cricket network.

I'm able to connect most of the...

Conler help

I've set up an rsync between my tablet (n810, OS2008) and my server, and would like to use Conler to initiate it. No matter how I choose the settings (yes or no on superuser, background) nothing...

It is really straightforward...

Thanks. I tried this, among other things, and just couldn't get it to work. Maybe it was something I had screwed up in the...

Re: File syncing

I got a friend to help me set up a pair of keys. We set them up using my server (OS X) and copied the private key over. Apparently the permissions are the tricky part.

Here's my command:
rsync...

Re: File syncing

Sorry, but I'm having trouble setting up the SSH keys. I followed the instructions you linked to, and the scp went through just fine. I'm still being asked for my password. I even tried switching...

Re: File syncing

Awesome. I'm using an OS X desktop, by the way, but could use Windows if I have to.

I just managed to use the commandline to sync from a folder on my desktop to my tablet over ssh!. I used this...

Re: File syncing

I wasn't aware grsync had an option to connect to an SSH server. I only see local directories and bluetooth as options IN grsync.

Re: File syncing

I have searched those, thanks. I haven't looked into UbuntuOne, however. Again, the big thing seems to be mounting another drive over WiFi, which I guess isn't feasible right now.

Re: File syncing

Thanks. I did try grsync, but only local folders are available to choose from. If I could mount my desktop over wifi as a disk on the tablet then I think grsync would work. I do have an FTP server...

File syncing

I'm pretty dependent on Dropbox for work (between my Windows laptop, OS Xdesktop, and the web for access in the lab). I know dropbox isn't available for the tablets (I have an n810), but is there an...

Mail storage on card?

I use Evernote and would love offline access to my notes on the n810. The only way I've found to do this is with Evernote's IMAP access. However, it seems that my notes take up too much space on...

Re: Evernote?

Sorry to revive an old thread.
It looks like IMAP is the only way the tablets will support offline storage of Evernote notes. Does anyone know how to store the notes on the removable mini-SD card? ...

Re: Worst ad ever displayed on ITT

I'm not a fan of the new theme on my desktop but it's much nicer on my tablet than the old one.

Re: Inexpensive wireless web

Great info.
The cheapest thing I'm seeing with bluetooth is the i335 for about $40-$50. I'll keep an eye out for others.

Re: Inexpensive wireless web

Are there other phones that are compatible with Boost Mobile, or will the cost of flashing to Boost (or data cable and time to do it myself), and activation nullify any savings?

Thanks.
As much as I like the Gmail interface I find the built-in Modest imapped with Gmail to work just fine, and it's probably lighter than running the browser. I think I might have to spring for...

Re: Inexpensive wireless web

I see. I expected prices closer to Virgin's phones. I'm not a fan of buying used electronics unseen, so I'll have to see if one pops up on Craigslist for cheap.

Re: Inexpensive wireless web

Thanks for the info, both of you.
I didn't realize the data speeds were that slow, so I can't say I'm excited about the prospect. However, if I don't need to pay for data access if I tether then...
