Re: the Fremantle Porting Task Force, or "how to run maemo on Neo900"

The kernel has changed enormously. Vast swathes of low level functionality simply will not work without heavy kernel hacking. Many of the Nokia n900 kernel drivers simply will not work, or maybe even...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

How broken? Fixable with spare-parts, or dead-dead? Even if it's dead-dead, maybe you've got enough that's working to be spare parts for one of the old devices that I plan to retire soon now I've got...

Thumbs up Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

This idea appeals to me. I'm ex-Nokia, maemo/meego/... kernel team, and would be willing to spend some of my free time assisting with kernel and low-level-user-space issues. (If you need a kernel...

Did you think of looking at the man page for the sudo program on your computer? If not, why not? If so, what...

Re: shell script question

In a rush, but here are some pointers

$ ps | grep '[v]lc'

That grep won't match the grep itself, so no need for the grep -v to remove it

However, the big gun for finding processes, and...

Re: [HOWTO] Compiling new kernels on Harmattan device

Hmm, the top-level Makefile should have a line like this:
KERNELRELEASE = $(shell cat include/config/kernel.release 2> /dev/null)
So even if include/linux/kernel.release doesn't exist (which should...

Re: File Manager for N900

Well, assuming you've got the gainroot add-on, there's always the shell. I'm happiest in the shell, so do almost all of my file management from there.

If that's not quite your bag, then how about...

Re: Accelerometers

Yup, they're beautiful (to a geek!). Accelerometers designed for different numbers of axes can have different designs, but they all rely on the sprung pendulum you describe . On the whole the 3 axes...

Re: Accelerometers

An accelerometer _must_ vary its output depending on orientation, as we're constantly under the force of gravity. Turn the device upside-down, and the reading should go from (0,0,-1) to (0,0,1).

Re: Can anyone tell me what is the function of X-terminal application in N900?

Can't help you regarding the OMD, but I do have some familiarity with the Xterminal. Its function - the same as an X-terminal on any other computer!

I often use it to SSH into my home machine,...
