Re: 3.3.0.x Rokua

Me either, and if it turns out I do need it, I open Firefox Focus. Most of the time - at least for the content I want to look at (TMO, TJC, Hackaday, looking up Gentoo USE flags) it's fine. It's...

Re: 3.3.0.x Rokua

I wouldn't say the browser is unusable. Moreover, why can't you install Firefox Focus via Android support? I did, and it works as well as it did on stock Android - both X and XA2 Ultra.

I can't...

Re: 3.3.0.x Rokua

100%. People have developed dependence on ecosystems, and if they truly value their freedom and peace of mind, they'll adapt their usage to suit. For example, I abandoned all social media and gimmick...

Re: 3.3.0.x Rokua

I updated my Xperia X (single sim) via the in-settings update dialogue, and it got stuck in a bootloop. This was likely due to my endless tinkering, so I reflashed with the latest then updated...

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club

I guess I'll just keep replacing batteries in my Pebble Steel (I bought a bunch of similarly-sized, slightly lower mAh capacity from a battery vendor) for the time being. Editing JSON via terminal...

Re: Sailfish / Pebble users' club

That's good news! I desperately need a replacement for my aging Pebble Steel. I have a couple of questions for you:

Which model Amazfit are you using? Are you using an official SailfishOS device?...

Re: SailfishOS 3.0.1.11 Sipoonkorpi

For what it's worth, my Xperia X is a lot smoother overall with 3.0.1.11... and the battery seems to last longer - even with bluetooth/wifi/gps always on. Weird.

Re: SailfishOS 3.0.1.11 Sipoonkorpi

LOL, self-charging phones are here! I wonder if one of the updates uses the minute atmospheric pressure changes on the speaker diaphragms to generate current. Way to go, Jolla!

Re: Anticipation - Official Sailfish support for Xperia XA3 (announced MWC 2019)

There are a few. Basebands are another story. But that wasn't really the point. The point is that I'd rather not rely on Google services/apps in order to pretend I'm using an alternative. It kind of...

Re: Anticipation - Official Sailfish support for Xperia XA3 (announced MWC 2019)

Personally, I think the reliance on Google garbage in order to use an independent, third-party mobile OS is a little silly.

The whole point is to get away from the Google/Apple duopoly. I feel...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Considering they've selected hardware specifically for mainline kernel support (no hacked together modules with custom requirements) , I can all but guarantee purism will use a recent kernel... in...

Re: U.S. users, did you receive Presidential Text?

The Presidential alert SMS system was devised under Obama. I think it's a good thing to have for national alerts, in the event of disaster or BOLO (in the case of someone sending ricin to the SecDef...

Re: U.S. users, did you receive Presidential Text?

On Sailfish? How, exactly? Nobody else has gotten the messages as far as I can tell. It seems to be a limit of ofono. How did you get around said limitation?

Re: U.S. users, did you receive Presidential Text?

Xperia X, latest official, T-Mobile US (prepaid). I did not receive the notification, and I was rather disappointed. I had been awaiting the message since I heard about it!

Thumbs up Re: Sailfish Devices in The United States

I use it as my only phone, and I manage about a week of battery on it in good coverage areas. The English keyboard works great, symbols and input are as expected. Text prediction works as expected, I...

Re: Sailfish Devices in The United States

You're exactly right. NSA/CIA arbitration is nasty, and Jolla would never put their limited weight behind it.

Re: Sailfish Devices in The United States

I live in Chicago and use T-Mobile prepaid. Bought my Xperia X from B&H Photo and Video and bought my Sailfish license using an American credit card and a PIA VPN to Finland.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I share that sentiment. I installed alien dalvik once, uninstalled it ten minutes later. Still felt dirty so I reflashed and spent fifteen minutes bathing in isopropyl.

Pure Sailfish, please!

Hey @mosen, great idea! I'll check that in the morning. Haven't really looked at top (or any other metrics, really... been busy with work). Will report back!

The data doesn't lie! Thanks for logging @juiceme!

I think I'll reflash and let it settle before doing my tweaks and changes. :D

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

The European version supports LTE Cat13 800/850/900/1800/1900/2100/2600 (Bands 1,2,3,5,7,8,20) TD-LTE 2600 (Bands 38), so it will - at the very least - work on T-Mobile in the US (2,4,5,12,66,71).
