The option to be "always on" is critical if the tablet is used for VOIP.
Presence is a nice concept but should not be imposed.
Sometimes, one does want VOIP or IM to work like a plain old phone...

not by much. Many of the early N810 photos placed it next to or on top of an iphone, as if to say "look how similar they are". They are very similar in looks and in size.

An open-source SIP client would allow the tablet to be used as a voip phone...
