Re: Partly corrupted mmcblk0p1

Indeed!
Where does your mmcblk0p4 come from, or rather, why doesn't it have a zero size like in peterleinchen's output?
But in the end that's just odd, it's not actually a problem. It just happens...

Re: Linux on Galaxy - Use Linux Distro on your Samsung smartphone

No, it's not.

It would be "something", if this would be as good as it could get under the circumstances, but it's not. Short of scrapping the whole idea, this is actually as bad as it could get...

Re: Linux on Galaxy - Use Linux Distro on your Samsung smartphone

Please notice the facts!

gerbick pointed you to another thread about the exact same topic, in that you actually participated before creating this one.
There I linked an article at pro-linux.de, a...

Re: Life Span

Wow, this actually makes a lot of sense, and quite frankly, I could have already known that!
So thanks a lot for putting the pieces together for me!

Re: Life Span

Does anyone know if the N900's flash is SLC or MLC?
This should make a big difference in terms of longevity. I have 2 SLC USB sticks also from 2008 which I've mainly used for mobile Linux Systems,...

Re: Could Open Pandora games run on N900 ?

This pretty much nails the whole situation.
The process of getting it running is much more rewarding than the final state of actually running it.

This thread just inspired me to try Flare [1] on...

Re: Could Open Pandora games run on N900 ?

Afaik, some N900 are/were actually able to reach that via overclocking.
Also afaik, not all Pandora software requires a 1GHz Pandora.

The Pandora's PND packages are basically compressed images of...

Re: idea: Update browser engine on N900

Here's a netsurf 3.8 build for Easy Debian Jessie/armhf:

Re: idea: Update browser engine on N900

Well, Easy Debian has a different environment (pretty much standard Debian Jessie), which sometimes makes it easier to port software.

Anyway, here's an archive of my Netsurf 3.7 build [1] for Easy...

Re: idea: Update browser engine on N900

I have netsurf 3.7 running under Easy Debian and I'm pretty sure I can provide a 3.8 package after the weekend.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 20XX?

I'm still counting on vacuum fluctuations to either reboot the universe or to spontaneously materialize a Neo900 on my desk.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 20XX?

I think I remember having read similar things about the quality of the N950.
But I also remember having read about problems with the hinge, like it being too stiff or too loose. Can you confirm...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 20XX?

I'm not sure about that.
I mean, yes, it looks nice, but although I've never seen one in real life I always believed, that the tilting display would be rather impractical. When I hold my N900 it's...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 20XX?

Nevertheless, the Pocket 2 comes bundled with Windows. It also doesn't have a trackpoint anymore, and is still missing keyboard backlight.
The Pocket 1 has no SD reader and only one USB port -...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 20XX?

The Pyra isn't out yet.
All the others are either bundled with Windows or don't run a mainline Linux kernel, so are no option for someone who actually cares about FLOSS.
(Edit: Or they aren't...

Re: EU votes and it very well will change the internet as we know it.

Fixed that for you! ;)

That depends on who "the state" is in this context.
If "the state" is a community of people then you're totally right, but if it's just some bureaucratic entity then it...

Re: EU votes and it very well will change the internet as we know it.

Good point!

Not sure, if "hash" is the right term here. If you have some checksum algorithm in mind (md5, sha), then you'll end up with a lot of false negatives and virtually no false positives,...

Re: EU votes and it very well will change the internet as we know it.

There is a statement on upload filters at openstreetmap.de [1] (in German) that mentions some sort of "Wikipedia exception".
I don't know what that's supposed to be, but I believe the EU parliament...

Re: Missing benchmark application for Sailfish os

This only benchmarks the ALU of a CPU, which might introduce a misleading bias.

For example, the first Atom CPUs, while having a comparibly low clock rate, were actually not bad when it came to...

Re: [Request] Need a FPS game(Non Emulated native)

I guess that includes me, although I've never seen Harmattan in real life.
There seem to be a bunch of ID titles (Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein) available. [1]

btw:
Did anyone notice the game...

Re: [WTS] Nokia N900 | EU Only

In my opinion, the most convincing feature of this particular N900 is the qwerty keymat with four cursor keys, which also seems to be in pretty good condition.

Too bad, the photo isn't focussed...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Well, exactly that's the problem. This statement about reducing the desktop resolution for temperature reasons makes absolutely no sense.
