Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia (official)

Incredibly enough, I bought a Xperia X for main use 3 months ago...

Re: Jolla C

Well, I find it hard to assign a monetary value to the "non-phone" part of the program.

Re: Jolla C

So, answering myself, as part of the "Sailfish community device program" there's also access to webinars. The first ones are next week, and seemingly include "Sailfish tips and tricks" and one for...

Re: QuadRooter: New Android Vulnerabilities

Sorry but also wrong.

There's still a _huge_ difference between "oh, perhaps this thing deleted all my documents" and "oh, perhaps this thing deleted all my documents, corrupted my word...

Re: QuadRooter: New Android Vulnerabilities

No, and 1000 times no. The "library whitelist" in the Jolla Store basically exists out of some (in my opinion, as discussed almost two years ago, misguided) concern about binary compatibility with...

Re: Jolla C is now a brick

Well, rainisto and Stskeeps both mentioned at some point having it.
However, to the best of my knowledge, both have left the company. :/

Re: Jolla C is now a brick

I suspect any event where Jolla sends one or more hackers. Only FOSDEM comes to mind right now, but I hope there's some earlier developer/community event before that (like the JollaC one).

Possibly if you can wait to the next Jolla event you might find some sailor willing to reflash it for you...

Re: Selling my Jolla C [high karma members first]

I am (still ;P ) human enough to realize the karma a TMO account with 1000+ 'thanks' would have.

I don't plan to use karma as sorting criteria, either. But you get the idea.

In fact, I don't...

I believe it is the same set as the original Jolla. No USA for sure.

Selling my Jolla C [high karma members first]

As discussed elsewhere I don't find the Jolla C a significant enough improvement to warrant losing TOH (specially the keyboard OH). Thus, it's not replacing my main phone, I have plenty of secondary...

Re: End of Skype support coming soon?

Nitpick: you're basically just delaying the problem. Telegram is also centralized and thus has an expiration date. So you'll never see me recommending it as an alternative.

Re: End of Skype support coming soon?

And there you have why some of us are allergic to 3rd party network services (and 1st party, fwiw), _specially_ when "everyone else uses them".

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

Yep, vmware. Doesn't even prove if Intel VT-x is BIOS-unlocked. Useless.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

This is, at least for me, literally the only remaining benefit Sailfish OS has over Android.

That because Sailfish OS uses many of the same components used by desktop GNU/Linux, communication...

Re: Jolla C

Yes, I know that they're not going to fire the lawyerpult at me ;P . Rather, I'm thinking about what the Jolla C _allows_. There were some talks about private betas and the like.

Re: Jolla C

By the way, I ponder about what exactly the community development program entails? What happens if I decide to pass on the JollaC to someone else, since I'm not going to use it?

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

In fact, this approach just keeps looking better and better. I've seen Note 4s (the most recent ones still with replaceable battery) for ~300ish euros. And I could really use a stylus...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

Well, "to keep their schedule", they are now adding a fan, redesigning the chassis (making it larger), changing the battery model and form factor, removing the stereo speakers, ... just 3 months...

Re: Jolla C

No way to know for sure.

In the meanwhile I've noticed that aliendalvik seems to pass a fixed "0 deg." compass reading to Android programs rather than a "missing compass" value. Annoying.

Re: Jolla C

It's not about price, but rather about specs. I find no reason to get such a powerful processor when I'm mostly fine with the current performance on the Jolla, and would rather prefer to have a...

Re: End of Skype support coming soon?

Skype & Windows Phone have quite a love story. Back during the Lumia 800 times the "official" Skype client didn't support backgrounding (i.e. cannot receive skype calls in other programs).

It...

Re: Multitasking on Android

Technically, programs are always 'running' in PalmOS. This is because there's no distinction at all between storage and memory, and thus there's little difference between an "unloaded" and a "loaded"...
