Re: Is it possible to revive this N950?

I mentioned in my post that I did try that, and I got an I/O error from the partitioning tool.

About trying with different cables and operating systems: I don't think that would help. The reason I...

Re: What to get to replace my N900?

Depends on what you mean by "full feature support".

If you mean that you are looking for a device that supports all the features of Sailfish OS, then look into Sailfish X.

If you mean that you...

Re: What to get to replace my N900?

Maybe I was fortunate then, but the footprint on the N900's PCB was compatible with a random noname microUSB port that I had lying around. So I just had to take the time to take it apart, solder it...

Re: Is it possible to revive this N950?

Already tried that, with the flash-only option. It was able to flash everything except the rootfs and the emmc, sadly.

The screen has the usual issue, it has a non-functional area, but most of...

Is it possible to revive this N950?

I pulled my N950 out of the drawer it's been sitting in for the past 6 or so years, in order to see if it can be made to work once again.

Tried to reflash it, but the flasher fails on both rootfs...

Re: What to get to replace my N900?

Just came here to comment that if your N900's USB port broke off, it is not that hard to solder another port to replace it. I managed to fix my N900 this way some time ago.

That should not be an excuse for poor quality.

Re: Purism Librem Phone

MartinK has summarized it pretty well, I could not have said it better myself.

I have one more thing to add, though: android video drivers are a mess, because the android kernel is purposefully...

Re: [Live] Youyota 2-in-1 Tablet

How unsurprising.
I'm not amused.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Not sure why every single crowdfunding campaign fails at communication, though. One or two short updates each week would do the trick, I think.

Heh.
Let's hope that isn't the case!

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Does anyone know what's up with the Gemini? They are not responding to any comments on IGG + they haven't posted any significant updates for a while. :(

Re: Anyone still using N900: What apps do you need/want?

I may use the N900 once again, if it had a usable web browser.

Re: GPW Win 2

Ok, but without those ugly joysticks and stuff, this would have been a very cool device, even better than the Pocket. But as-is, it's just too ugly and bulky.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Do you know why they chose not to put the screen in the center? It kinda looks a little weird.

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

I don't have a problem with libhybris.
If that's what it takes to get it working decently.

Re: Purism Librem Phone

True, but the difference is that nobody else uses those pieces of software, so they are on their own when it comes to weeding out the bugs in there.

On the other hand, Gnome is used by a huge...

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

That's very nice to hear!

Do you know which are the problematic part? Ie. what works on the mainline kernel and what doesn't?

I personally would be okay with libhybris as well, as long as I...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I think they deliberately overpriced it.
So even if the road is bumpy, they should have enough money to get through the tight spots.

Plus (unlike Jolla), they are not developing an entire OS on...

Re: Should I buy new N810 ten years after release?

When my N900 was under repair (In 2011), I used an N810 for two weeks (borrowed from uni department). It was a lovely device, which was kind of OK for some of the stuff I would want, but...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Why do you think it is bloated? What exactly is bloated?

AFAIK their OS runs Gnome 3 by default. Is it bloated? I don't know, depends on who you ask, but I've seen it running fine on much weaker...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I don't thing the chipset matters that much in this case. Even 2013 hardware can run a smooth GUI with okay-ish performance.

The main thing here is whether or not they manage to make it happen...
