Re: New: Jolla/Sailfish in Latin America

Interesting!

The first one could match pretty well to the Jolla C/Aquafish/Inoi reference design.

As for the second one - well, that's basically matching an Xperia X spec wise which is pretty...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

At least in the Xperia X there is kernel 3.10.84 (accidentally the same kernel series as in RHEL 7 :) ).

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

You definitely want OSM Scout Server (https://openrepos.net/content/rinigus/osm-scout-server) + modRana (https://openrepos.net/content/martink/modrana-0) or Poor Maps...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I don't really get this - why do you want to have a smaller system partition ? I've already hit the other limitation - the system partition holds installed software and fills up fast once you install...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

It's used quite heavily in e-ink ebook readers and it seem to work just fine there, including specific requirements such as fast page turn times and standby times measured in weeks/months. I think my...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Well, there is not really anything preventing "regular" distros from carrying mobile optimized apps. They already usually support at least two pretty disparate use cases - big headless server/server...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

This is also how corporate software subscriptions work. The idea is that software development is ongoing process (new features & security fixes) and that there are related costs you have to pay as...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Got it working now (just the app for now, have not yet looked at installing the QML plugin and using it separately) - thanks a lot! And it all really looks gorgeous! :)

I think can we can easily...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Got as far as this but it's wont compile, complaining about some sqlite3.cpp errors:

01:28:34: Running steps for project mapbox-qml...
01:28:34: Configuration unchanged, skipping qmake step....

Re: [Live] Youyota 2-in-1 Tablet

Actually - that depends how I would be paid for working on modRana. Because if it was a commercial application, I would have to do compromises (closed code, limiting access only to paid customers,...

Re: Saving text input to a 'TextArea'

Looks like QtQuick LocalStorage (http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtquick-localstorage-qmlmodule.html) might work for you to persistently store user data.

Alternatively you can also use PyOtherSide to use...

Re: [Live] Youyota 2-in-1 Tablet

I don't think this is a good example - the main problem with the FreeRunner turned out to be an unfortunate choice of hardware that turned out to be very buggy and dog-slow. This in turn made the...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

That's true - I guess it would not be that hard to add it now that I have though a bit about how it should actually work. :)

Interesting - that makes sense. :)

Yeah, that looks doable,...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

This is how modRana does it - seems to be the same principle:

I *think* that if you want flick...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Oh I think I get it now - another unintended victim of the infamous Harbour policies I guess. But if I understand it correctly it should not be an issue when distributing via OpenRepos for the time...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Or are there some issues with distributing the QML plugin due to Harbour restrictions ? IIRC there have been some weird and rather stupid rules related to QML plugins.

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Is there some technical difference why it can not be done in the same way as with PyOtherSide ? That is also a C/C++ codebase and is perfectly useable from Python via QML:

import...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Well, it can mean a lot of things. AFAIK most current smarpthones have an application CPU where the "normal" OS lives (Sailfish OS/Android/iOS/etc.) and a baseband with its own CPU that runs some...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking as well - hide all the elements you put on top when user starts interacting with the map itself (drag, pinch, rotation) or if the map widget animates (switching...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Yep, that sounds like a good plan. All the hacks one needs to do to get stuff to Jolla Store (modRana has a fair share of them as well) is really sad and one needs to draw a line somewhere.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Isn't that where the firmware recovery images are stored ? Since switching from btrfs to LVM+EXT4 Sailfish OS is no longer using snapshots for factory reset (which turned to be a really bad idea,...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Nice! Thanks a lot! :)

This should really help a lot, jut to name a few things that an Open GL based map view could provided in comparison to the custom tile based more or less 2D QML element:
