Re: Something is Coming - F(x)tec announces new device

Why no option to buy it with Sailfish pre-installed and supported?

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Problem is that these devices tend to sell out (due to no longer being produced), so new buyers cannot get a new phone to run Sailfish on.

(The only alternative would be to buy two phones, one a...

Re: Flatpak on Sailfish OS

What do you think of the comment on the Sailfish blog:

"at we do not see FlatPak as the selected Sailfish OS application bundling framework, mainly due to its high resource usage."

Re: Anticipation - Official Sailfish support for Xperia XA3 (announced MWC 2019)

Yes, without the ability to use apps like Whatsapp many people would need a second phone and then (soon after) will wonder why they would carry the one with Sailfish.

Re: Anticipation - Official Sailfish support for Xperia XA3 (announced MWC 2019)

I agree, it's a massive update. Also, their approach to using Linux containers for Android App support should (I think) make it much easier to keep up to date with Android updates. In theory, that...

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

I think SailfishOS and could be promoted and further developed in a Horizon 2020 project. A consortium including Jolla could submit a proposal, I think it would raise interest, Jolla has been...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I want an XZ3 with Sailfish!

Jolla, if you're listening, I'd pay handsomely for it.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Great so the XZ2 and XZ3 are part of their open devices program?
I would absolutely *love* an XZ3 with Sailfish and would pay for it accordingly.

Re: Russian Open Mobile development based on SFOS

Two comments:

1) What do you prefer: no Russian ownership or no SailfishOS?
Without this funding from Russia, there would be no Jolla and hence no SailfishOS. I would like to see more and...

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

I also lost money of Youyota, and I'm still in the market for a new Sailfish tablet.

Almost any would do, as long as it has more modern hardware and in particular more memory than the old...

Re: Sony is shifting direction.

Playstation network subscriptions are a very steady source of income for Sony, they still need a Playstation though.

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

FYI I also like the tablet, for the reason you mention. But there are many Web sites that crash the browser, I think because they have too complex pages and need a lot of memory to display. (Those...

Re: Youyota Tablet Contact

Yes and the sad thing is that the UI of SailfishOS 2 is very suited to tablets. Perhaps even more than to phones.

It would work better on more modern hardware with more memory than the Jolla...

Re: Rostelecom investment in Jolla

Today, they're the only non-IOS/non-Android OS that's still around, and still far from being big business. They need to make money to survive, and apparently they're moving in the right direction, ...

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

N900 -> N9 -> Jolla 1

Have an unused Jolla C as backup, looking to go to XPeria XA2 when it ships.

Re: MWC2018 news

Actually, isn't it the case large-enough governments can get full source code access to most operating systems, even Windows, under appropriate non-disclosures and other conditions etc?

Re: Jolla - alike, or how Jolla adopted the Google's anti-open-source practices.

I think they did Sailfish OS 2.0 because of the tablet, and I personally think it worked well. I find 2.0 a big improvement over the 1.* on both my Jolla phone and tablet. It's the one UI that works...
