Re: Why does Android feel so lacking?

This is not actually true. Android has supported activity based multi-tasking since API level 1, or the version before the first commercially released version of the OS. Some apps run completely as...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

According to some of the comments at the link, it came as far back as 2009. Put a more direct way, the SDK has always been closed; this certainly isn't a new development.

While the SDK may be...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

I also really like the idea of Pixel Qi that has a reflective LCD display and the ability to turn off the backlight entirely saving a claimed "100-fold" power savings over traditional displays. I do...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

Just to make interesting conversation...

I actually use the nexus 7 as a large SIP phone for making infrequent phone calls. I too only use the phone rarely, so it makes little sense for me to buy...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

And now Nokia has sold its corporate HQ for the equivalent of $222M US to stay ahead of their expenditures... I seem to recall a statement about pant-peeing for warmth ;).

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note

Doh!

The client is a popular console app by the name of b-i-t-c-h-x (without the dashes). I don't use IRC, so I'm going on the testimony of others.

Re: The Epic Android Thread

In truth, it is for my g/f, and a development platform for me to test against. I have little need for a phone, as I don't use it very often, but I will certainly play with it thoroughly and report...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

Finally, the Nexus 4 is once again available via the Google Play store in Canada. I was able to get an order in (after many tries "due to high demand"), but even 8mins after being available, the 8GB...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

Thanks for the video! It was very entertaining and very well done.

Yes the split screen feature of the Galaxy Note is a killer feature. I just wish that it was available in stock android....

Re: The Epic Android Thread

Ok, so I just discovered the open-source "Terminal IDE" project for Android, and am smitten. I do a lot of work on the command line: I edit text files using VIM, use more than a few scripts, and...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note

@rajil.s

Have you considered the *****X IRC client? It is a nicely full featured CLI IRC client that is an OSS staple for many. It is available via 'Terminal IDE' which is a terminal and command...

Re: galaxy note 2 supports multi window split screen

Yes, split screen is quite fabulous, and a great way to avoid the somewhat messy management of re-sizeable floating-windows on-
screen when displaying content.

I like the way that surface...

Re: galaxy note 2 supports multi window split screen

It's a feature that has been available in Android since the first version (IIRC), though is not often used by app developers. Any other questions?

It's funny that you mention that, because I am watching a video right now in a floating window (dice player) while composing this message. Cutting and pasting from another process would be trivial....

Re: galaxy note 2 supports multi window split screen

Split screen (or multi-pane) rules. I have been dreaming of this feature on tablets for years. I am glad that it is finally being demonstrated by a major OEM. It is sure to get picked up in a future...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

Very interesting indeed! It certainly makes sense (in hindsight) to include this functionality in its own chip, rather than burdening the CPU/GPU with software that runs for every app, as is the case...

Re: The Epic Android Thread

I too really enjoy the iterative changes in Android 4.2. There are a few things that I would have preferred for the stock experience, but these have more to do with the default apps, minor UI tweaks,...
