When you have enabled the developer mode, it is possible to use ssh to log into the device.
Would that wok for you?
No, I have not tested any bluetooth keyboards with N9 to find out if they work....

Are you talking about N9 (no, you need to enable developer mode in the settings to get terminal), N950 (yes, developer mode is enabled by default), or MeeGo (non Harmattan)? (I do not know the answer...

I installed the Sensitive Motion app myself, but I did not experience any problems with the SMS counter.
Did you install / uninstall any other applications during around the same time?
