Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

Zenphone: no hwkb :/
Mutter/Muffin are WM, h-d is a DE. Do you want to leave h-d and just change the WM?

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

No.

Maemeque interface on Android is NOT the way to go. I don't want a crippled OS.

The way to go is to run a real Linux distro (e.g. Debian/Gentoo) on some device. Need Haskell? Apt-get it....

Testing a newly received, used N900

I've just received a used N900. Now the question is: is there any way to reliably test its condition? [I have 10 days to give it back]

USB port, SIM card not recognized - anything else to test...

Re: [Announcement] Python2.7 for Maemo5

mr_pingu,

there's a whole history behind the modules. The idea was to port most modules to 2.7/3.4. There's even a thread about it somewhere.

But.
But due to the Aapo's packaging, the debian...

Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

And is it possible to turn all watchdogs off? I heard ubiboot wakes them back again.

Grab this: http://wiki.maemo.org/Potential_Android_successor

I know, very Spartan ;) very draft-quality.
It's just a template, even the information for the Xperia isn't complete.

Folks, add...

Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

Yeah, the paths are confusing should be documented. How is it with preinits? Will it suffice to modify the target system's /sbin/init or more trickery is required? Are there any thing which have to...

@Ariadeno: why do you claim so? the keyboard is not sliding. But it's nothing when compared to the lack of arrows! How will you access the terminal here?

Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

Juiceme,

can you please properly document all the steps needed to boot another OS which is not any of the built-in ones? It's basically trial and error with the current documentation.

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

@javispedro: it's why I think about running Gnome Shell/Unity on N900/N950, since it could suit a mobile device (rather than a computer). But I won't experience with my main device and N950 needs...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

Well, what I mean is: we have libhybris. Even though, Ubuntu Touch barely works on unofficial devices. Shouldn't it be trivial to install Linux on any Android device?

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

#21: there is libhybris. Why can't we use it to run our favorite distro on any Android device? What are we missing?

#22: I'd argue. The thing I love about N900 is that it's one device to rule them...

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

What I really hate about Android is
- the lack of mutlitasking - I freaking don't want anyone to close my apps. I am the one in control!
- the amount of malware - hell, you need an...

Re: [Announce/WIP][Alpha] MeeCoLay - run Harmattan apps on Fremantle!

News.

1. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1493176&postcount=17
2. I'll try to migrate the meecolay repo to openrepos. The files like to disappear at times.

(to both: dunno when)

Re: [Announce/Beta] MeeCoLay GUI

Well,
- devices remained units
- the development of MeeCoLay itself is blocked by the outdated core libraries
- I doubt I will have time to develop the GUI further in the first half of 2016

Re: What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?

Well, my good ol' N900 is slowly dying (I'll try to unscrew it, clean & etc.) so I'll be looking for some replacement.

I'm considering another N900;
Pros:
- a real pocket computer and a phone...

Re: DebiaN900 - A set of scripts to facilitate the installation of native Debian (WIP)

Does DebiaN900 use some kind of preinit script on N900? For example to kick the watchdog, etc. We'll need such a thing on N950 but maybe there's no need to reinvent the wheel :)

Re: The N9/N950 Kernel Upstreaming Force

Does the syslog remain after the unsuccessful boot?

How can I start kicking the watchdog? Can I disable it as we did with our N900s?

Thanks.
