Re: 2.1.4 EA / Lapuanjoki

Yeah, the usual solution is to put header/footer to the top/bottom of your listview, which acts as an anchor for people to open the pull down/up menu at any time.

It's of course a trade-off as...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Well, at the moment it's the only officially supported standard-like Linux distro on smartphone hardware. There are indeed limitations, missing stuff or outdated packages, but it's still miles ahead...

Re: sailfish-maps rpm from a Jolla 1?

Looks like it should be easy to implement in modRana - there is even a "point info" page you can show after long pressing any point on the map where the distance from current position could be shown....

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

I guess you can use Universal Components (https://github.com/M4rtinK/universal-components) to keep Sailfish OS specific stuff (pull down menus, buttons, fast scroll listview, etc.) while being able...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

Actually, I plan to add Mapbox GL support in parallel with the current tile based widget. The main aim is to both enable early testing with fallback to the current widget & support for Jolla 1 class...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

Thinking about this - if the fonts module only contains the fonts and no executable code would it maybe make sense to turn it into a data pack that gets auto registered when users download the Mapnik...

Re: WhoGo Maps

So I've looked how hard it is to use DBUS from Python as I did remember there have been some long needed improvements done from the Jolla side recently - and it turns out to be really easy! :)

Lightbulb [HOWTO] Using DBUS from Python on Sailfish OS

So turns out it's finally possible (https://together.jolla.com/question/162447/bug-dbus-python3-too-cant-be-used-as-package-requirements-in-harbourjollacom/?answer=172099#post-id-172099) to easily...

Re: Palm OS Open Source Edition

Yeah, IIRC webOS was already open sourced back when HP more or less dumped it (for generally bogus reasons).

So I guess this is open sourcing the work LG did on the codebase since then ? Could be...

Re: [Announce] Warehouse - native client for OpenRepos.net

I would be fine with storeman replacing Warehouse as the default OpenRepos client on Sailfish OS.

But in that case I think the docs (https://openrepos.net/content/basil/about-openrepos) should be...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Well, they is still some work required to review the contributions and overall running a real upstream project. But there should be in general lot less friction when stuff is open and there is an...

Re: 2.1.4 EA / Lapuanjoki

Looks like this might be already work in progress (https://openrepos.net/comment/23607#comment-23607) (or at least the maintainer knows about the issues and is still active):

Re: Purism Librem Phone

You are incorrect in both cases (multiple libstdc++ & CVEs) - Flatpak works with the concept of runtimes, which generally contain the core and security sensitive libraries and provide a stable API...

Re: QT5.6 (Dec15) to be Long Term Support - implications for Sailfish?

In any case it would be definitely a positive trend if Jolla just started regularly tracking the LTS release. Should make it easier for developers to support Sailfish OS in multi-platform apps and...

Re: MWC2018 news

The Gemini PDA runs Android by default, right ? So at least the building blocks (an Android hardware adaptation for the device) should be in place for enabling Android emulation support the way it's...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Starting with Jolla C/Intex Aquafish Sailfish OS switched to the (IMHO much more robust) combination of EXT4 on LVM.

As for the issues with BTRFS, the main issues were likely caused by the...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

This is really sad - it's already really hard to write non trivial native applications and apparently not well though out changes like this don't make this any better.

In any case, huge thanks...

Re: Jolla - alike, or how Jolla adopted the Google's anti-open-source practices.

Sure, that's definitely an improvement over a closed source & immutable UI and already enables a lot of stuff via patches.

But without an open license and a functioning upstream, the ammount of...

Re: modrana

I'm afraid it's not going to work.

The modRana offline routing guide (ModRana_offline_routing_guide) on the wiki only applies to Maemo 5/N900. The N9 version of modRana never got routing support...

Re: Jolla - alike, or how Jolla adopted the Google's anti-open-source practices.

That's more or less the point - I don't think there is any good reason anymore. A modern Linux distribution is not really that different from what Jolla is trying to achieve with Mer - some pieces of...

Re: Jolla - alike, or how Jolla adopted the Google's anti-open-source practices.

I don't think Jolla and Google are really comparable like this.

While Googles agenda is clearly apparent & nicely described by that rather well known Arstechnica article, in Jollas case the...
