Re: The new QWERTY device project

Not sure where did that come from, maybe from MediaTek-based Chromebooks which actually run Linux with almost mainline kernel, but have a bit different hardware from phones.

From SailfishOS...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

There is EGL/Wayland integration in libhybris, used by SailfishOS, Plasma Mobile, LuneOS, etc it's just that they don't use X server.

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

I did quick and dirty xorg driver (https://github.com/NotKit/xf86-video-hwcomposer) for hwcomposer, based on xf86-video dummy. It's not ideal, but works faster then fbdev on same device and no...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

I'm looking for a way to enable libhybris with X11 (Droid 4, OnePlus 2 and Moto Z Play as testing devices). Currently I can get 3D acceleration...

Re: The new QWERTY device project

Would gluing to the contacts with conductive glue make it better? The problem is that you can't be sure for how long that specific one is going to be available for order, even from India.

Re: The new QWERTY device project

The downside is that that the more custom the battery is, the harder it is to get replacement in case it's not producted anymore. Just check this topic...

Re: Fremantle porting - getting organised

Do you plan to keep hildon-desktop (making it Wayland compositor) or move to something else? The problem is that Weston, while being a reference compositor, is more like a Wayland demo and not very...

Re: Fremantle porting - getting organised

I suppose it's a mix of first and second, since hildon-desktop and other Fremantle packages are ported to Devuan, which then can run on other devices. Check this post...

Re: Sailfish OS on ONDA V820W V3 and other Intel SoC-based tablets

I didn't reverse the kernel part to light that red LED, since on Android it's only lit when charging, so this can be ignored.

I planned to update it to 2.1.x, but still didn't do it. Will try to...

Re: Sailfish OS on ONDA V820W V3 and other Intel SoC-based tablets

Did you boot Windows before installing it? UEFI has "Android" and "Windows" modes with different quirks to boot them.

Re: Sailfish OS on ONDA V820W V3 and other Intel SoC-based tablets

Is it Onda V820W, not Onda V820W CH? Not sure if original one can be found anymore in shops.

Re: The new QWERTY device project

I suppose there might be special cases when you need a small device and functions dumbphone simply can't offer (say, internet messaging or voice calls), so it's offered as a "backup" to the main...

Re: The new QWERTY device project

I wonder if they can be asked to comply with GPL and release kernel source code. This would make SailfishOS port possible in case someone wanted to.

Re: The new QWERTY device project

I can't find the exact quote now, but I remember time concerns were mentioned as one of the reasons of INOI releasing without Android support in Russian Telegram group.

Re: Sailfish OS for Moto Z Play (addison)

Hello. Unlikely, since it's a newer device and came with Android 7.1.1, while this port is based on LineageOS 13 for now (which is effectively Android 6).

Re: The new QWERTY device project

Type-C connector looks more durable to me compared to microUSB, also disconnects easily.

Re: Sailfish OS for Moto Z Play (addison)

No actual dual boot, but switching is more or less easy (reflashing boot partition only). However, you need decrypted userdata partition and custom Android ROM (either LineageOS or patched stock)...

Re: The new QWERTY device project

QtWayland has support for XKB layouts, which is used by SailfishOS. So the capabilities should be on par with X11 desktop, minus nice UI to configure this (manual layout file editing is probably...

Re: SailfishOS on Motorola Droid 4 XT894 (alpha port)

Quick question. In the next build I want to remap some keys in kernel, to avoid editing xkb files. Do you think it's a good idea to make Caps Lock => Shift and Shift => Ctrl, or this will cause...

Re: The choice of OS of the new QWERTY device project

Having libhybris with Arch is mostly a packaging matter, but then you need software which can handle it. For example, only Plasma Desktop/Mobile can be currently used as desktop environment (since...

Re: Nokia RM-581 codename "Columbus" First Harmattan Prototype S1.2

It might actually have closer hardware to Nokia N900 due to kernel version, but it's just a wild guess. Would be really interesting to check if n950 can backup the rootfs and upload it (dd should...
