Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

This (https://github.com/mukulhase/WebWhatsAPI) seems like it might be the solution. Anyone fancy writing a Telepathy interface for it?

Re: Documenting devices with mainline Linux support - Help needed

I reached the character limit in the original post so I'm moving "Other" devices to this new post to make room for new entries until I get around to moving it all to a wiki page...

Other (tablets...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Swipe up originally came from WebOS before Nokia copied it and inverted it. Swipe up was also used in Blackberry OS. I found it slightly annoying that Harmattan went for swipe down but was actually...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Indeed. I'm all for reducing the size of the bezel but it's getting silly now with these so called flagship devices. The Galaxy Edge looks nice at first glance but if you watch a full screen video...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

Hello Wizzup_! So I stumbled onto a little something you seem to be working on (https://github.com/maemo-leste). ;)

Re: [Announce] CSSU devel, it may eat your brain

Very true. Perhaps APT should be removed altogether then?

The point of APT that it is a package manager which handles dependencies automatically. When caution must be taken, we have dpkg to...

Re: [Announce] CSSU devel, it may eat your brain

I don't agree with this. upgrade and dist-upgrade are part of the functionality of APT. As xes pointed out, if there are broken packages/dependencies, they should be fixed. If fixing them is...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

Agreed, let's move on, however I feel I should point out that RAID is directly related because Btrfs is not only a file system but it is also a volume manager. Btrfs checksumming is used to detect...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

I don't claim to know all the ins and outs of Btrfs and I was unaware it uses Hamming distance to detect errors. Thank you for enlightening me. :)

The basics of volume management are that...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I believe so. Which part do you think I did not follow?

No I didn't. I considered it but I decided that it would be more appropriate to post my questions publicly which would allow others to...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

Sorry, I didn't mean it as a judgment but as a partial explanation for why I don't have any confidence in his software products. To give you one example, if you have some idea of how parity checking...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

For what it's worth, Purism's communication is quite poor. I'm still waiting for a response from this post (https://forums.puri.sm/t/questions-on-the-availability-of-librem-5-dev-kit-and-phone/1573)...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

For what it's worth, Debian used to be the Universal Operating System, they still claim to be, but I can't attest that claim. Debian still offer packages for System V init for those who don't want...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

What exactly is it that will be lacking support? Purism plan to mainline everything so it shouldn't matter how niche the product is. Linus' rule of "don't break userspace" means the longevity...

Re: Darwin/ARM running on a Nokia N900

Apple recently open sourced the XNU kernel on ARM. (https://techcrunch.com/2017/10/01/apple-open-sourced-the-kernel-of-ios-and-macos-for-arm-processors/) Will Darwin on the N900 see a revival?

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Don't think I'm giving a penny more to Neo900 UG until there's a product ready to purchase. ;) $600 for a non-existent product is much more money than Neo900 UG ever asked me for, especially when...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Pretty much what r0kk3rz said. The key things here are the hardware monitors and how the device reacts to rogue activity. The Neo900 can watch the radio for any unexpected activity, it can watch...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

A sandbox provides a highly controlled environment. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by serial port or how it would work but the Librem 5 product description mentions nothing this, nothing of a...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I hope so, but they don't mention anything about a sandboxing and monitoring the baseband on their campaign. If they are going to do this, it's kind of a big feature to leave out of the product...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I wouldn't advertise it as a feature at all. Separating the modem from the SoC doesn't guarantee anything (https://blog.replicant.us/2014/03/unveiling-the-samsung-galaxy-back-door/). They claim...

I guess I am now. I only installed i3 a couple of weeks ago, but I think I'm going to stick with it. I've never been much of a distro hopper, or desktop environment hopper for that matter. I had...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Interesting. I'd like to know more. My experience is quite the opposite. I've found Linux (the kernel) to very stable, even on non-LTS releases. I can't say the same about Linux userspace but...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Who cares about logging in? That should be the least of his worries. You'd think he'd be more sorry about the stability issues in older versions of Windows. Maybe if we didn't have to use...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

You could well be right there, however this sounds very similar to what Nokia introduced back in 2009 with the N900 when they allowed us associate accounts for SIP, Jabber, Skype, Google Talk, etc....
