Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

It's nice you're back, because the only thing more pathetic than us fanboys breathlessly waiting for Jolla to give us another 4 bytes worth of information is you coming here to needle us about it.

Re: New version of N900 Orrery available

I think that's a very good idea. I myself do not do celestial navigation - I put that code in at the request of a user. So I do not have a good idea about what features would actually be useful...

Re: New version of N900 Orrery available

The problem with this is that the N900 does not have a compass. It doesn't know which direction it is pointed, so it can't do an augmented reality type of sky display. While in principle one...

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

I completely agree with you on this point. Since Jolla has been showing Sailfish running on N950s for months, I'm baffled by their decision not to release N9 and N950 images so that they could...

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Here's another question you might want to ask: "Do I want to see any more Maemo/Meego/Sailfish heritage phones in the future?" If you do value that type of phone, you might want to consider...

Re: New version of N900 Orrery available

I'd like the orrery to be significantly different than programs like Stellarium, because: 1) Stellarium is far more beautiful than anything I'm going to write in may spare time and 2) Why duplicate...

Re: New version of N900 Orrery available

Thanks very much for the kind words about my little app! I'm still very interested in Linux phones, and I plan to port the code to Sailfish. It'll be a major rewrite, I think, because I did not...

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

I think the bikini picture doesn't fit with the others, because that product would be improved if one of the halves was missing.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

I think you're being unrealistic, if you expect popular apps to quickly appear on Sailfish phones. If you have an app running on Android and iOS, you're already supporting the vast majority of...

Re: [Council] Should Tech Staff and/or Council Remove Dangerous Packages From Extras and Extras-Testing?

I believe such packages should be removed. I was bitten by the unexpected overclocking after installing batterypatch. I didn't realize overclocking was happening until many days after I...

Run, don't walk, to the nearest hospital emergency room. You are having a psychotic episode.

I don't understand this statement. What is wrong with ported apps?

Re: It's Almost March 2013, is n900 still worth buying?

Yeah, that is the way to think of it. The N900 isn't like a current generation smart phone at all. It's not just slower because it's a few years old. It has nothing remotely resembling the app...

Re: What is the future of Maemo?

Why is that question in any way urgent? Nokia is just an OEM for Microsoft now. If Nokia dies, Microsoft will just find another company to crank out Zunephones. Microsoft has enough cash to...

Re: Comets are coming! You can't stop them, but you can follow them with orrery on your N900

I'm sorry, I still haven't done it, and I feel bad particularly if your kids like my app. I'm waiting to see if the Jolla SDK gets rolled out, or if I have to jump ship to Ubuntu phone.

Re: Sailfish(Jolla): Ideas/Qns & Concerns/Criticisms

If you go to the Sailfish wiki, to learn how to start developing for Sailfish, you are presented with the following message:

Application Developers / Build a Sailfish App
It's early days for...

Re: Sailfish(Jolla): Ideas/Qns & Concerns/Criticisms

Let's see... Ubuntu apparently will release a beta version of their phone OS for developers (running on the Galaxy Nexus) this month. Jolla will release their N950 version for developers to use -...

Re: Sailfish(Jolla): Ideas/Qns & Concerns/Criticisms

Frankly, I think that everything you need to know about Jolla's future can be learned by comparing this page:

http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone

with this one:

Re: q: Prevent specific apps from being swapped out of RAM/mem?

Sadly, the FlopSwap page appears to have been deleted. Clicking on that link takes you to an empty page.

Re: How many of you still use N900 as main phone?

My N900 is still my main phone. I've got a spare, just in case the active one dies. I've bought four N900s in all. One was stolen, one given away. I have an N950 running Nemo which I play...

Re: [Announce] SymPy (Computer Algebra System) for Maemo 4 & 5 & 6

Please allow me to echo this sentiment. I use SymPy on my N900 absolutely every day. It's my default calculator now. Thank you very much indeed, rcolistete!
