Question Re: surprisingly: WebOS is going open source

Since it's using a Linux kernel, don't we already have most of the drivers necessary? Shouldn't it be able to run on anything that can already run Android?

Smile Re: surprisingly: WebOS is going open source

You're missing the whole point. It doesn't matter that HP isn't going to use it for phones. GREAT. There hardware wasn't fantastic anyway. It sounds like the whole thing is going open source... that...

Re: Latest big name departure from Nokia: Rich Green, CTO

Bah. I was listening to the Linux Action Show today on my Zen while trimming bushes. When they brought up that a Nokia employee was officially on medical leave but unofficially got smacked for...

Re: n800 died time to replace but with wat?

N900 is dead and unsupported. If a MeeGo device ever exists, it too will be DOA and unsupported.

Go with something like the Viliv N5: http://www.pocketables.net/2010/06/review-viliv-n5.html and...

Re: Time for an open maemo fork?

What I and others have been asking of those who continue to say that MeeGo was "almost done" or "two months away" and (insert conspiracy here) is... show us MeeGo. Then we gets lots of huffing and...

Re: Time for an open maemo fork?

It wouldn't help you. MeeGo doesn't exist.

Nokia and open source – a trial by fire (http://www.h-online.com/open/features/Nokia-and-open-source-a-trial-by-fire-1194928.html) is a great summary of...

Lightbulb Re: 3G N8x0 alternatives?

I just saw another potential N900 replacement... the "W3":

Angry Re: Nokia - Microsoft partnership (merged threads)

I break my silence in a moment of weakness.

Pasih... you're just inventing things... negative things, specifically. A little bit of digging before engaging in wild speculation will reveal that due...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

I'm done. I love surreal comedy but this is getting too surreal even for me. When the conspiracy folks at abovetopsecret.com are putting forth sounder logic (top member thread pick today involves how...

Re: YOU have killed MeeGo/Qt

Compatibility makes no sense if you're on the bottom. If you're the dominant player, you can say "See, we even run the other guy's apps, so we run everything! There's now no point going with the...

Re: Nokia Plan B

I got yelled at for claiming MeeGo is a UI layer on top of regular Linux. I was told that MeeGo has "layers" that make it MeeGo and that's why Smeegol wasn't MeeGo. I'm assuming that MeeGo's...

Ok, I love horse racing so I think I can carry this metaphor far. :) Symbian used to race in stakes races(smart phones) but has gotten very old and is now relegated to cheap claiming races and can...

I don't agree with them in that Blackberry ruled the smartphone world when that meant business users. Now general consumers are in the smartphone market and that's changed the requirements....

That's actually the same article I read; thanks. I think things are still a bit unclear. It does appear that if their schedule doesn't slip that Microsoft is going to make a lot of improvements this...

This got torn apart on a real tech site (Anandtech) for being filled with factual and logical errors, non sequiturs, etc.

There is no MeeGo. MeeGo does not exist in a deployable form at this time. They decided not to pin their hopes on something they've spent a fortune on and is still not in a saleable form after...

Talking Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

Wouldn't work. Hardcore Nokia fans would insist that if Nokia wasn't actually generating the electricity to power those lights, it just wouldn't be Nokia and that the lights would be an epic fail....

Ok, criticizing's the easy part. Now for the hard part: please explain what a better decision would have been and why.
