cant flash n800 from ubuntu hardy
i think it has to do with the fact that in ubuntu hardy theres no usbgroup anymore.. how should I flash my n800 now ? access to a windows pc is out of the question!

I`ve set this up before. I got mpd working on my linux box and mmpc on the nokia n800 works like a charm. I even got mpd to stream all my songs to the internet using another addon.

Problems connecting to open wifi spots are sometimes related to the fact the WAP is not running dhcp and wont hand out IP addresses to clients. This you would have to know what IP range is being used...
