Re: What phone are you going to get after the N900 ??

One thing not mentioned yet that I'm missing. Notification light! Having to unlock the screen to check the notification bar is nowhere near as efficient.

Re: What phone are you going to get after the N900 ??

As I mentioned elsewhere, I've recently 'replaced' my N900 with a Samsung Galaxy SII which seems to fulfil my day to day needs based on a couple of day's usage.

Having said that, my N900 will...

Re: When will there be anything that can replace my N900

Well, I've been convinced to give a Galaxy S II a go. It'll be my primary phone but my trusty N900 will still be my primary computer in my pocket.

Re: POLL: Do you use CSSU or not?

Started using it some time ago, so I'm on the 'testing' branch.

Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

Awesome stuff! Great to see a CSSU Stable at last! At least no-one can accuse the (most excellent) people involved of rushing it! :-D

Re: Using the N900 charger for other devices?

My understanding is that there is a standard for these chargers so it should work fine.

Thumbs up namebench

I read a thread on a Linux forum about a Google application called namebench. Basically, it recommends DNS servers for you based on a bunch of speed tests it does. I hooked my N900 up to my...

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I had a broken packages problem which I managed to fix by firing up HAM and disabling various repos followed by a re-enable. I guess the forced refresh/update allowed the system to 'see' the broken...

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

The bit about being unable to boot sounded like a reboot loop situation to me. Maybe I read it wrong.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Yes, you can reflash the kernel only. http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware#Flashing_only_the_kernel_from_a_FIASCO_image_.28expert_topic.21.29

I did that recently. Worked a treat.

Re: modest-home-applet problem

Sorted it! I fired up HAM, disabled the repos that modest home applet was likely to be in then re-enabled them after an update. After a further update, I could then install modest-home-applet and...

Re: modest-home-applet problem

Tried that but I'm getting a message saying modest-home-applet is missing, basically. I've checked that the required repo is enabled & have done an apt-cache search for home-applet with turns up...

modest-home-applet problem

Basically, I'm unable to upgrade to CSSU 16.5. It seems the root of my problem is that in /var/lib/dpkg/status modest-home-applet is listed as deinstall ok config-files. (It's causing a broken...

Re: Anyone regret buying N900?

No regrets whatsoever. I have concerns that I'll struggle to find a worthy and fully functional replacement when the time comes.

Re: Which Linux to use on Windows 7 64-bit as dual boot?

If you want a distro that has a bit better security than standard, go for openSUSE. Apparmour installed by default... The other distro I can personally recommend is Mepis. It's Debian based and...

Re: PETITION to Nokia to release the full source code of the Maemo OS to this Community.

I voted yes. As far as I'm concerned, Nokia have nothing to loose as I will never buy another Nokia product with the current Microsoft agreement in place. However, I would really like my N900 to...

Also, RIP N900? Nope, mine is fine! Doing stuff an iPhone could only dream of. I might be able to do the same stuff with a good Android phone but I can't be...

There's also Photorec (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec) which is also available in the repos. (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/recovery-tools/) I think though, that you'd have to...

Renewed interest.

I don't know if it's just a transient blip thing but I've noticed a bit of renewed interest in the N900 from the wider Linux community. A forum I frequent has seen a bit of activity lately with...

Re: Insanely slow app manager

I found App Manager in particular was a lot quicker after I changed swappiness from the default 100 to something a bit saner! I did it 'manually' but Swappolube (http://wiki.maemo.org/Swappolube)...

Setuid maybe? Here's an explainiation (http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/unix-bsd-linux-setuid-file/) I pretty much picked at random from a Google search.

Re: Debian or ubuntu or what?

Linux Mint is the one I'm currently recommending. Personally, I'd favour the Linux Mint Debian Edition because I actually use Mepis which is Debin based and compatible. As is LMDE.
