Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

ModRana should get turn-by-turn navigation support and hopefully also voice directions in the near future as well. :)

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

Surprising ?

Yeah btrfs can probably recover a lot more than a few bits (never looked at how it works), but what he is saying for "non trivial amount of errors", doesn't seem wrong, and is related...

Digging into the WiFi stack and figuring out what it will take to replace it with wpa_supplicant is actually on my to-do list.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I just want to say thank you to all those who helped me , DrYak Aspergerguy, Fellfrosch and the rest of you, It sure wasn't easy for a beginner, unlocking the bootloader seemed unnecessarily, even...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I think the issues I'm having are both a) getting windows (8.1) to play nicely with the fastboot drivers and b) the instructions for unlocking the bootloader (on the sony video) not matching the...

Exclamation Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

It would be very nice to use the camera button to start the camera app anytime, like in the old prehistoric Android days.

Please upvote the relevant feature request...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

Sorry, I didn't mean it as a judgment but as a partial explanation for why I don't have any confidence in his software products. To give you one example, if you have some idea of how parity checking...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

To be fair, even highly skilled users had difficulties (https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1536465&postcount=1585) getting Windows 10 to play nicely.
I'd wager he's got some UAC notice lingering...

Wink Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Sorry to redpill you, but SailfishOS has always been built on systemd and some non-trivial benefits (like a faster boot time when compared to Android) depend on it.

Jolla developers wisely chose...

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

For what it's worth, Debian used to be the Universal Operating System, they still claim to be, but I can't attest that claim. Debian still offer packages for System V init for those who don't want...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Just to make a check list :

The Jolla phone is updated to the latest 34.3.A.0.228 or .238 firmware (Important to do first because after unlocking the boot loader, OTA won't work as easily)

Don't waste your time as advice on site out of date. You need to do a bit of searching on TMO, but will try and find it and amend post.

Re: WTB: Sony Xperia X F5121

I know but I have to put my sim in it. And it’s in a iPhone currently and I don’t have so tiny fingers.

It said: boot loader unlock allowed: “No fricking way!!”

Kidding.

Re: WTB: Sony Xperia X F5121

Sim locks can be unlocked but they are usually accompanied by a non-unlockable bootloader which cannot - that's what you need to check before buying one if you hope to get Sailfish on it.

Re: My vision for the future of Maemo Fremantle

Yeah, that sounds like a much better base for me as well (bigger community, know track record, the actual origin of Freemantle, etc.). Also the Librem guys apparently want to choose Debian as well.
