Monitoring with N900/Maemo (How low can I go?)

I need a platform to survey my "neighborhood" for device comms. I'd like to figure out who's on my network, in my Bluetooth vicinity, and using GSM/radio to communicate. I'd love to use the N900.

Incantation for Mounting Remote FTP or HTTP site

I'd like to play with some file system implementations for Fremantle. What is the magical incantation to mount an FTP or HTTP server's files as a filesystem? I don't want to use curlftpfs.

I'm...

Any Word on Maemo Summit Phones?

Those of us who went to the Maemo Summit in October got a surprise preview of the N900. I've loved mine and even went ahead and picked up one for myself.

It's been six months and I've been...

Re: Wifi Hex Key

Actually, read further. The "issue" is closed because "the standard requires to have less than 64 characters" Looks like you are SOL...unless you can talk to your school admins.

Re: Nokia N900 problem with magnatic fields

Oh yeah. You have to test a lot of cases. I finally found one -- a cheap off brand -- with a lightly weaker magnet that seems to work. Most cases have a stronger magnet that will set off the N900....

Why Only 2 Profiles on the N900?

On the N900, there are only two profiles: Silent and General. And I have not found a way to create more.

Why is this? I must be spoiled by my other Nokia phones, where you can create LOTS of...

Re: Evernote

Evernote comes in only two flavors: there is an Evernote sharing service and the Evernote Web page.

The sharing service is good for uploading photos. Xournal also uploads PDFs it generates from...

Is Mail For Exchange Any Better with Final Release Firmware

I'd like to use Mail for Exchange on Fremantle. On the pre-release firmware on the N900 MfE was pretty flaky. Most (read that 99%) of the time, the synchronization failed.

Is the new firmware...

Re: Mail for Exchange features on N900

Not to mention that the MfE client is quite fragile. It fails to sync up over half the time. There are bug reports filed for this.

Re: N900 not till Jan 2010 on Tmobile USA!!!!!

WiFi is very good; I notice no difference between this and my N810.

As far as phone signal, TMo signal is fine at work, but is quite weak around my house. My N97 has a really bad time -- I often...

Re: N900 not till Jan 2010 on Tmobile USA!!!!!

I have the $9.99 plan from TMo. I can access ssh ports, update OMWeather, etc. Seems open to most ports I have tried.

The only way to get the $4.99 is to be grandfathered in. It's not offered...

Some things I like:

The user interface redo: kinetic scrolling, etc, etc
The integration of the phone was done very well. The integration of other services (e.g. Skype) into the phone was also...

When the HOLD Button Doesn't Hold

I have a case for my N900: something from Case Logic with a magnetic clasp. I used it for my N97, but the camera cover sensor on the N97 is also magnetic, and the camera turned on in the case. I...

Message Templates for the N900

This is a concept that comes over from the Symbian side of Nokia phones.

When writing SMS messages on a Symbian OS phone, you could create and use message templates. For me this is especially...

Re: N900/T-Mobile Data Plan Update

She explicitly said that the data plan I chose would not work because "it says here you have an N97." I believe she called it a "dataphone".

Upon further questions, she said the $9.99 plan was...

Re: N900/T-Mobile Data Plan Update

I AM talking about T-Mobile in the US. At the Maemo Summit, each attendee got a preproduction N900 on a 6-month loan to use and comment on.

N900/T-Mobile Data Plan Update

I just got back from the Maemo Summit and went to try my T-Mobile $9.99 data plan on my N900. It did not work with my N97, but I thought I'd keep the plan and try it out with the N900.

It worked...

Re: Nokia N900 RX-51 New Tablet/Smart Phone Pictures And Specification - Revealed

It's obvious they have done a lot of recycling design from the N97. The keyboard is straight from the N97 -- including the wacky spacebar. The snapoff back design and the camera lens/cover look...

Re: Gizmodo on N97: Ouch!

I have to say I like the N97 better than the Gizmodo dude, but the release of the device illustrates why Apple is more popular.

If you compare them out of box, Apple does what it says. The...

Re: Ideas on an Evernote Client: Web clipper + xournal + online storage
