That would hint at either the DB notifications being screwed, or the messaging app not reacting to them... Did the problem persist, or has it disappeared since?

There is actually no (reliable) rule that would allow us to know when a messaging service can be used as an email address... That's why we don't do it :)

My various fights to change that (as well as not showing the "authorization pending" contacts on top when accounts are offline) never yielded any results... Engineers unfortunately can't override...

All the data for this is in the central database, Tracker. You can lookup how to query it using QSparql, and look for all the nmo classes (nmo:Message, nmo:Call...).

- generic XMPP support: definitely dropped by management. Sad.

It seems that the single sign on (SSO) system is having hiccups, unfortunately I have little idea what might be the cause (since contacts and SSO are two different things) :/ I think other people had...

If you don't feel perfectly confident with programming and the Harmattan platform, I'd advise against trying that. Actually, just modifying files on your phone will brick it... And Facebook contacts...

No special ideas no, as I said it might just be that facebook never sent them... This should be more robust in the next release (1.2) where we fetch avatars from the facebook graph API.

As far as I know, gabble supports this XEP and it works with Gtalk. I don't know about Facebook support, basically if gabble supports it then the N9 does...

We have a bug to add generic jabber support, but as long as no program manager allows that feature, teams can't work on it (yeah, that sucks).

Well I guess your gtalk contacts were gone too, they probably just got imported from gtalk again. I don't see any reason why contacts would disappear though, I have been upgrading my device from 1.0...
