Android seems to be fully functional without sim. The only thing I had to do was create a google account before I could go to the market for the first time.

I didn't think that the application would make a difference to the speed the GPS receiver locks on, but I would be interested if it could make a difference because on the last couple of occasions...

Downloaded 5 levels of map tiles for my intended destination in the Derbyshire Peak District, worked a treat. :D Good I did as could not get a signal at all where we were.

Thanks, I have run the second command and have got back over 12GB of memory :eek: I am struggling to understand how to download the sections of map I want and seem to get an awful lot of errors...
