Re: Bluetooth control of N900 in car

Thanks for the link to that device!

I have a holder for my n900 in my car, so I don't have the same problem as you. But a remote would still be nice. I wonder if the Targus mouse could be...

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

That's too bad :(

I hope these get implemented soon!

For instance, the multi-tab feature of Opera is not really very usable without a quick way of cycling through the tabs. To switch tabs...

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

I see in help, there are a list of keyboard shortcuts, which look awesome (cycling through tabs, etc). I can't get any of these to work. Am I missing something, or do these not work on Maemo?

Re: [Announce] Pomodoro, time & task management application

Very cool app! Other useful features would be:

- being able to rename a task after entered (e.g. if it contains a typo)
- being able to type a description of the reason for an interruption (e.g....

Re: [Council] Nokia response to MyNokia subscription in PR1.2

I have a feeling that if Nokia created an opt-in registration system that was linked to an anti-theft protection system, they would get very high opt-in rates.

I.e. Register your phone number,...

Re: [Announce] ApMeFo (beta 0.9-5) - Create custom folders in your Application Menu

Great app!!

I created a folder called 'Main', and for some reason, the contents of this folder also become the contents of the top level folder. Bug? Feature?

Re: N900 in Canada (Toronto)

Cool - I usually don't worry about electronics breaking, at least not after a month. If they're defective, you'll probably know sooner than that. But I worry about the N900 USB problem. Do new...

Re: N900 in Canada (Toronto)

What about if I buy one via newegg.ca? If it breaks, would I have to send it to the states?

Re: About the next Summit (maemo.org round)

Yes, Toronto would be a good choice! :)

I will help organize if it is held here.

Re: N900 will not allow USB OTG!

I wonder how bluetooth keyboards perform with the n900? On my n810, I'm back to using a USB keyboard, because the BT keyboard was so slow.

I'm a moderately fast typist (80wpm), and with my BT...

Re: Are you buying the N900? (Quick poll)

Apparently it won't support 3G in Canada. So now I'm completely conflicted. I must have this device, but I don't want to move to the states to make it work...

Re: N900 in Canada (Toronto)

Well, Wind certainly looks promising!

I know next to nothing about bands/carriers/frequencies etc. But I see that Wind is going be using AWS. Is this supported by the the n900?

Re: Best N810 keyboard? (wired or wireless OK)

Hmmm.. That's interesting. I wonder if I've just had bad luck with bluetooth keyboards? My first was a cheap SPP only one, so I blamed the keyboard. But my second was a Stowaway, which is...

Re: Best N810 keyboard? (wired or wireless OK)

I'm a moderately fast typist (~80wpm). I tried two bluetooth keyboards and hated them both, because they couldn't keep up with me. I would type a sentence and then have to wait a second for the...

You can look into Powerlaunch:

Re: N900 specs revealed

I totally agree. I may be nitpicking on the minor features of an unreleased device, but the future is almost here, and it is very exciting.

Even if the N900 on launch isn't as open as it can...

Re: N900 specs revealed

I've only been using Linux/Unix since 1996 or so. I guess I'm a youngster then :)

No machine I've ever used has had the shell configured to use vim mode by default.

Re: N900 specs revealed

Hehe. In Bash there are shortcuts like ctrl+r (search through command history while you type) or ctrl+a (akin to home). You just need to learn them and then you won't miss the keypad.

Re: N900 specs revealed

Funny - that reminds me of the early Mac a friend of mine had in university. It didn't have arrow keys. Looking up "cursor" in the manual referred you to the fine mouse. Word processing was a huge...

Yeah, I buy that argument. I actually use most apps in windowed mode.

The only app I consistently use full screen is FBReader, but I've been using that app more and more. I imagine that with an...

Re: What features are REQUIRED in a Maemo PHONE?

I don't demand a DPad and button cluster on the face per se, but there need to be directional keys of some sort (DPad or arrow keys), somewhere on the device.

Linux doesn't matter to me too much...

I use mpd + sonata for folder-based browsing. It does tag-based browsing as well if you want to. Also, playlists, etc.

Using a client/server architecture has some other advantages:
