Re: Necuno Mobile

LTE cellular is "possible" (read: optional?) according to the specs.

They've just posted a new blog, rambling even more on dangerous hardware. Perhaps they are right about the backdoors. But even...

It wasn't there before when I first looked, they have added it later (https://web.archive.org/web/20180815210958/https://necunos.com/). Also, the place where they should have put that link, is in the...

Re: Necuno Mobile

4 seconds? Great. My phone usually has uptimes best expressed in months (only need to reboot to update the OS ), so I actually I don't really care.

Also, those 4 seconds, does that include...

Re: Necuno Mobile

As it is now, they've only presented the idea of a product. Frankly, I wonder why they even made a website for a such a shallow idea at this point. It's nothing more than "we'll create a mobile...

Re: Necuno Mobile

Too good? Really? NXP i.MX6 CPU. Cortex A9, you know, the one which was kinda slow in the N9 already. Even Purism tried really hard for the slightly less antique MX8 for the Librem 5 (and succeeded)....

Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Odd. I thought Android supported Ext4 as well. A few years back they wanted to remove it (why??) but public outcry changed their minds. Did they sneak this anti-feature back in, with a newer Android...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

It's about the persistent anti-customer things they do. Their in-product adds, their dark UI patterns, their telemetry which is very hard to get rid of. And now they want even more control over your...

Re: Linux Apps on Chrome OS Tablet

It's run by Google's OS. That's not a dream by any sane standard.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Okay, I must say, that's faster than what I'd expected. Extrapolating to 2.2GHz of a XA2 that would mean 7605ms, 1.7 times as fast as on JP1, and not even that much slower than the X.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Thanks, I stand corrected.

I do find those benchmarks indicative for the actual problem: the A53-cores. The Kraken benchmark runs about 3 times slower on the 630 than on the 650, indicating that...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

That's not what the spec sheet (https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-630-mobile-platform) says. big.LITTLE is not just about clock speeds, it's about mixing low-powered and high-powered...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Yet those cores are not faster than those of even the JP1. Not many apps will actually use those eight cores. I have an 1.4GHz quad core tablet (Ubuntu Touch). It uses the same A53 cores. It is slow.

Re: [Discussion] Powermenu 2 - Sailfish

The last few SFOS updates tend to break stuff for PM2. The WLAN and BT toggles were non-functional in previous version of SFOS, but now with 2.2.0.29 the flight mode toggle is inoperative as well.

Contacts can have multiple phone numbers. E.g. landlines, mobiles, work. Could be relevant information when returning a missed call.

Re: XWayland Victory!

That's Google's DNS server. You could use CloudFlare's server, at 1.1.1.1. At least they claim to be much more privacy friendly. They also claim to be faster.

Re: Official SailfishOS-support on upcoming Sony QWERTY Phone

The claim that it is uses the same chipset as Xperia XA2 is what really tipped me. The XA2 uses Cortex A53 cores, which is made for low-power efficiency, not performance, and which has been...

They managed to miss-spell "Sailfish OS". I hope that's not indicative of the quality of their products.

Re: Purism Librem Phone

I guess a problem with that would be the extra burden on the support department: people complaining "it doesn't work", because they (or someone else) changed something and can't remember it, or can't...

Re: Jolla - alike, or how Jolla adopted the Google's anti-open-source practices.

While I prefer open source, that doesn't mean that closed source is inherently evil and anti-consumer. I've seen no evidence that the e-mail client nor the xt9 input has a hidden agenda which harms...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

The competition is more than just Apple Maps. And counter-example, here in the Netherlands OpenStreetMap is often much more detailed than Google Maps, and much more up-to-date. Anecdote: two years...
