Re: Handwriting, please…

For an at least marginally usable HWR engine for linux, you might take a peak at http://risujin.org/cellwriter/.

It's no Rosetta or ParaGraph, but it appears to work. Moreover, it's one of that...

Re: Handwriting, please…

Also, good HWR (meaning fullscreen natural writing) is much more economical with the precious screen real-estate of a handheld. And let's not forget that handwriting, contrary to thumb-typing. does...

Re: Handwriting, please…

There simply is no decent HWR engine available for linux. The HWR on previous tablets was most likely a (badly) tweaked version of Decuma Alphabetic (my own guess, as Nokia never specified), but...

Re: Who will ship first? Pandora or Nokia Tablet

I'm not really back, just operating at seriously reduced power levels.

Oh, and by October I'll finally be gone from here. Time to change my sig. I guess.

Re: Who will ship first? Pandora or Nokia Tablet

Some 3G modems should work; it all depends on the availability of OSS Linux drivers for its chipset,

Alternatively, at least one of the SD-slots is SDIO-compatible, so if you were to stumble upon...

Re: nokia n97 for North America june 2nd

Just check out some of the reviews on the 5800's applications. S60 Touch has some serious integration issues

Re: What's left to do?

Given that it was perfectly possible to do voice recognition on a Pentium 90 with 64 MB of RAM more than 10 years ago, I find the argument that voice recognition would require more processing power...

Re: What If the Next IT Was This?

I really can't help thinking: "Detachable screen? As if I'm never going to lose that".

Also, why is the keypad so small? It seems there's a lot of wasted space on the bottom section for what I can...

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

This version appears to work. Thanks very much. There was no "update description" however, nor a confirmation of save, but I don't really need those.

Again, thanks.

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

I started mcedit from xterminal, changed powerkey doublepress to softpoweroff, hit save, confirmed save and my entire tablet froze up, requiring a powercycle.

I'm really annoyed when I have to...

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

So: WTF?! I have nothing else installed that could possibly interfere with a python program, or that taps into the system of the tablet. Why won't the blasted thing update mce.ini?

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

This version starts but -- again! -- refuses to write the changes to mce.ini. It should be self-explanatory that I haven't seen any evidence of an "update description", whatever it may be.

I'm...

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

-sh: /usr/bin/mcedit.py: not found

Which is rather funny, as an ls of /usr/bin does show mcedit.py present. Maybe you didn't set the executable bit?

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

I don't know vi. Then again, I don't know Assembler either. The gripping hand: Any editor is useless if the program doesn't start.

Re: mcedit - Change MCE settings easily!

That was one of the first things I tried (it would be kinda stupid to not check this out before posting), and the double press does nothing.

I currently have no good editor installed on my N800,...

Well, I can't say it came as a surprise, but nevertheless a microscopic spore of hope was once again squashed. I installed mcedit and tried to set the doublepress event of the power button to...

Re: fbReader update

At least FBreader's developer has had the common sense to give the user the choice (old style navbar can be set in preferences).

Re: Best video quality supported by N800 and N810 via mpalyer

I just re-encoded an episode of 2 and a Half Men with PDXE:
624x352 at 23.976 fps (I chose not to change the original resolution)
XviD codec 2 pass (Virtualdub gives it 691 kbps) (the original was...
