Re: I have an extra unused PC

If you have need for Windows, why not dual-boot? I think I have Windows on one of my computers somewhere.

I think that says more about Dell owners than Ubuntu.

Re: Seamless Software Upgrade v4.2008.36-5 is out!

Well, that didn't go so good. Here's my report. I ran the update and it locked my N800 so hard I had to take the battery out of it to get it to restart. Then it went into a reboot loop. So, I had...

Re: Where does one find eBooks?

Also, check the Project Gutenberg Australia site:

http://gutenberg.net.au/

There are a number of books there not available in the other site, due to differences in copyright laws in Australia,...

Re: Video Chat With Gizmo - what's possible?

If you want to use MSN, someone has ported aMSN to the N8x0 and gotten it to work with the built-in webcam. Here's what you need:

Re: Blob Wars : Metal Blob Solid

Thanks! This is one of my son's favorite games, and it plays very well on the N800. Can anybody think of a way to enter the cheat code "lockandload" in the Options page.

Re: Any chance of Stellarium working?

Stellarium seems to work, but it's a bit slow obviously. It installed an enormous number of library files. 72mb in all. The display fits the Nokia's 800x480 screen okay. I'm really not familiar...

Re: Debian Apps That Run Well On The Tablets

I realize that. I'm just impressed that opengl works at all, even if it's without hardware acceleration. I knew supertuxkart wouldn't be any good, but I hoped chromium would be better than it was...

Re: Debian Apps That Run Well On The Tablets

Hey wow, so we do. Pingus on Debian on the N800 isn't perfect either. It gets stuttery the longer you stay in a screen.

Chromium is too slow to be playable.

Blobwars (Blob Metal Solid) works...

Re: Debian Apps That Run Well On The Tablets

Pingus works. It stutters a bit in the title screen, but once you get to the game, it's very playable with the stylus. So far, anyway. My 5 year old is engrossed with my N800 playing it. That...

Re: Debian Apps That Run Well On The Tablets

Sorry, no. Gnome-alsamixer doesn't work for me either, but fiddling around with it got all the right packages installed so that sound started working. I really don't know what I'm doing at all, but...

Re: Debian Apps That Run Well On The Tablets

Frozen-bubble works quite well. After following the earlier discussion for setting up gnome-alsamixer, the sound works on frozen-bubble now too. :) Thanks guys.

Frozen-bubble is a little bit...

Re: Diablo isnt for me .. just yet . How do i go back ?

I use Pidgin a lot, and it works well for me in Diablo. Maybe give that one another shot. I wish xmame would install though. :(

EDIT: Nevermind. I got xmame installed. Also, Rdesktop works for...

Re: 770 vs Fujitsu LT 500

That Fujitsu is interesting. If you could get the 256mb ram version, you might be able to install a lightweight Linux distro like Xubuntu and have access to a lot more software than what you can get...

Re: Aergh... is Linux just for nerds?

I find that people who compare Linux to Windows and prefer Windows tend not to compare apples to apples. They'll compare the worst case of Linux with the best case of Windows. However, when you run...

Re: YouTube serving vids in MP4

I watched part of the video, and it looks like they are encoded in h.264. I don't think there is a decoder for that, and even if there was I don't know if the Nokia has a fast enough processor to...

Re: Crunch time: Deciding between laptop and weblet for mobile computing

The thing I love about my N800 is that it gets me out of the "computer room." Each new version of the Nokia's OS makes it more and more of a replacement for my desktop PC. So, now my desktop is...

Re: WSOD - Who has had one?

Hey buddy, you were right. I asked them early on what they were going to do about replacing my 770, since they don't make it anymore, and if maybe they were going to replace it with an N800. They...

Re: WSOD - Who has had one?

According to the Repair Status page, they received my 770 on 4/21. It has said "Awaiting Replacement Device" since 4/28. I emailed them just now to find out exactly what that means. My 770 doesn't...

Re: What fun things have you done with your 770 recently?

I've been streaming movies to my 770 from my Ubuntu desktop machine using apache2. I use MediaConverter to make them into 400x240@384kbps in a batch. For example, I converted the last half dozen...
