So, will the Nokia N9 be able to run ICS smoothly? Or will it lag like the N900 running ICS? With the specifications of the N9, it should be fine though (if everything works).

NITDroid could be your answer. It will allow you to run Android 2.2/2.3 on your Nokia N900. Everything seems to work on that OS, however phone calls do not work as of yet. They work, but no sound....
