Re: Awesome and Classic Nokia Phones!

I don't know about Samsung, but Nokia went for "differentiation", so each year they released a bunch of phones which was differentiated by which features were missing. So instead of releasing 2-3...

Re: Should I buy a tablet?

For me, one thing a tablet has a decisive advantage over a bog standard laptop is (as you've already noted) the reading of PDFs, and also other ebooks, comics and similar stuff in portrait mode. Sure...

All countries that Here Maps supports are available for download, and yes, that includes China.

Re: new here just bought a nokia n900 in 2015

Blackberry seems to be the only manufacturer who still sell qwerty phones "worldwide". Other manufacturers have carrier specific models for the US market now and again.

I've more or less given up...

Re: Rare old Nokia 3300 for sale

It's sad how modern smartphone designs have converged to become featureless phones.

Re: A Nokia 1100 with quad-core CPU and Lollipop spotted online

Some years ago I was helping a friend setup his new HP printer, when I got to installing the "drivers" I was shocked to see that it wants 300-400MB free disk space - I said to my friend WTF!?!

Re: A Nokia 1100 with quad-core CPU and Lollipop spotted online

Everything is just too bloated these days. For the past few decades all the hardware advances given by Intel has been taken away shortly afterwards by Microsoft with their ever increasingly bloated...

Re: [Announce] AutoDisconnect - Automatically disconnect idle connections

It was some widget that was set to auto refresh several times a day. I've disabled it now since I'm using a much better alternative on my other phone :)

Is it possible to stop the even more...

Re: A Nokia 1100 with quad-core CPU and Lollipop spotted online

Last century I was using a 1024x768 screen on a 64MB notebook, had a full KDE 3.x desktop running on it. And it even managed to run Eclipse. 512MB is a luxury ;)

Re: [Announce] AutoDisconnect - Automatically disconnect idle connections

I think my real gripe here is that since I've set the phone to offline mode I don't want any processes to bring up the "Do you want to exit offline" dialog. When I'm ready to to leave offline mode...

Re: [Announce] AutoDisconnect - Automatically disconnect idle connections

Probably, and the solution is to not have it search for connections every 10 mins

Having said that, I have my Search Interval set to Never, plus I have put the N900 into offline mode...

Re: Jolla vs Blackberry 10 (running android apps)

If BB and/or Jolla can implement fine grained permissions that overrides what the apps asks for (and they always asks for far more than they really need) then that would be a huge selling point for...

Re: Jolla vs Blackberry 10 (running android apps)

Does either BB or Jolla have user control over the permissions that android apps can use? Eg prevent access to: network, phone info, contacts, gps etc?

Re: Anyone tried 128 GB Micro SD XC cards?

So they've hit some physical limit now ... I would've expected a 256GB as the next step up from 128GB.

Re: What have former N900 owners moved to?

Biggest culprit is Samsung who have laid off their design department years ago - they're churning out the same looking, unergonomic Galaxy phones year after year. Disclaimer: I'm using a Galaxy Note...

Re: [Announce] Qalendar -- a replacement for the default calendar

How would keyboard input work on a palm pilot since they didn't have a (physical) keyboard? I much prefer keyboard input to eg the dodgy scrolly thing that maemo has for setting the time/date. Back...

Re: [Announce] Pierogi - a universal infrared remote control app

If it's duplicated it would probably more appropriate to call it Kodi/XBMC since that's what is ultimately processing the IR. I've been using MCE keyset for a while to control a Zotac zbox running...

Re: [Announce] Pierogi - a universal infrared remote control app

Thanks for a really useful app!

I'm using LG TV Keyset 1 and want to activate the Service Menu, when I do the "Load New Pack", I get the following error:

Re: POLL What screen size do you prefer for your future mobile phone (2015)

I care more about battery size than screen size. The bigger the battery (capacity) the better :)

Re: Thinking of getting back to N900. Few questions.

I have to disagree with you here, K9 Mail for android is far better, some of the useful stuff it does that Modest doesn't: multiple identities, threaded view.

Re: Things That Kinda Suck About Modern Mobile Devices

What really sucks about most modern devices is the desire to be thin and unergonomic, often at the expense of battery life. Often I see people holding a clunky portable charger under their phone...

Re: Nokia Should Not Acquire Jolla

I wouldn't be surprised if there are such companies out there. With all these "health" and "safety" regulations if an employee moved a computer by themselves and broke their back they might sue the...
