Re: Sailfish core functionality (Accounts and DLNA)

It would be very silly to support this new proprietary protocol, as google probably will change it three times over before the Jolla is released.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

That would be a very expensive solution for such simple use. If you'd use NFC for that, you can't use that NFC-antenna (and probably chip) for any other NFC-use anymore, as there always will be an...

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Hmm, I was hoping for something more high-end. Not for CPU per se (a fast dual core is probably good enough for this OS) but from the looks of it this device lacks stuff like HDMI, extra sensors,...

Re: Google drops XMPP support in its new chat/Talk/Hangouts

Of course not. Actually, I would prefer to outsource it too, just like I did with e-mail. But I do know that if this e-mail provider messes things up, I can switch to another easily or indeed host it...

Re: Google drops XMPP support in its new chat/Talk/Hangouts

AirPlay is meant to stream the A/V output of a device to another device, e.g. tv or stereo. While DLNA could do the same, DLNA is more meant as media server and player. The N9 does it remarkably...

Re: Google drops XMPP support in its new chat/Talk/Hangouts

Won't happen. It looks as if open standards are on the decline. Especially Apple has proven that you can make big, BIG bucks using extremely closed standards. And now you see that Microsoft and...

I want to read it too, but will not register an account for it. Not even a fake one. Even fake accounts leak real data.

With this update, can this twitter app, now that it is utterly useless, be...

Re: Elop calls Iphone 'embarassing' and throws it on the ground

Hey Elop, I was so embarrassed by Windows (Phone) 8 that I switched my desktop OS from Windows 7 to Kubuntu.

And I'm not even kidding.

But given its legacy, I expect Sailfish to use Buteo or SyncEvolution for synchronization, so I guess at least SyncML should be...

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

I guess there will be tempting (closed, commercial) premium on real devices. Android-support, for one, will not be open. And the device itself should be a nice upgrade as well over the aging N9.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

That's true, but it works only if you can actually saturate those cores. Judging by my desktop, I rarely see CPU usages higher than 13% (quad core with H.T.). Only some specialized apps like...

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

We (well, many of us) did buy a N9 when it was just getting available and expensive, so yeah :D

Indeed, I'm willing to pay premium for a premium device. However "high end" to me is actually...

Re: Sailfish(Jolla): Ideas/Qns & Concerns/Criticisms

I don't even want a "high end" SoC, if that means it overheats very fast when doing some intensive stuff so it has to slow down again. The multi-core craze is also something I don't understand. There...

Re: [In Nokia Store again] Extraplugins v0.3.0 - ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber

No, I'm currently logged in on MSN messenger in KDE IM on the desktop. Just like the N9, it uses Telepathy as backend. So either it's an (old) issue with Telepathy on the N9, or they've found a way...

Re: N9 antenna

The 3G antenna is positioned at the bottom. See page 8 of the manual (http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/guides/Nokia_N9_UG_en.pdf). That might explain some of your findings.

And I guess it can...

It certainly isn't anymore with today's multi-GiB devices. But even back then, was it? Symbian managed quite nicely with even less memory (and Epoch32 before).

Android might have been supporting...

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

I'd sure hope they support Qt5. I've merely dabbled a bit with QML on the N9, but I really like it. Qt5 will take QML and Qt Quick 2.0 to the next level from what I gather from the PR-talk, which...
