Re: Nokia Windows Phone!!!!

Guys, don't be so hard on the guy just because he lives on a distant planet approximately 78 billion km away. He posted as soon as the news reached him. :)

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

I think it should be clear even to you by now that no-one in this community knows how it is or will be, only Nokia does. No-one here can give you the answers you want or promise (or have promised)...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

I like how you managed to miss the whole point completely. But I'll leave it at that. The thought of having to engage in a debate with you even over such mundane things like current weather makes me...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

Nokia has been developing most of Harmattan behind closed doors, so unsurprisingly not many outside Nokia can tell you that. We'll be the judges when they get the "MeeGo related device" out. Certain...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

But they don't have WP7 ready to go either until maybe somewhere towards the end of this year. Like with MeeGo. Only they now destroyed their Symbian sales too by announcing it's going out.

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

I think you are missing quite a lot if you don't see that? You are comparing what there is now to what there will be in the future. Instead of what there could've been in the future versus what there...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

There was a plausible alternative offered, that was the old strategy. Are you familiar with it? Even if you are, I'll just have to disagree with you.

This will not speed up anything. They probably...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

For me the biggest insanity in this isn't about WP7 being bad, or some ideological openness question. It's the seemingly disproportionate ratio between what Nokia is giving up (past, present and...

Re: Live from MWC 2011 Barcelona

I'm still trying to figure out this thing. Nokia and Microsoft keep talking like they're the only ones in that "third ecosystem". "We're contributing this and they're contributing that." But in...

Re: Nokia - Microsoft partnership (merged threads)

And do that while Nokia was still number 2 in profits (Q4) only topped by Apple, and still leading in market share in both overall and smartphones, although in decline.

They waste just as much...

Re: Poll: Would you buy a phone running WP7?

I'm not going to buy one. Not because WP7 is bad or because I hate Microsoft but because I can't support the lunacy of turning Nokia into Microsoft's manufacturing arm. It's not the Nokia I knew...

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego? Hello WP7!!

Seriously, this is about the worst case scenario for Nokia. They totally crapped on their Qt strategy. They gave up Ovi Store to MS. They dumped billions of investment in existing ecosystem an Qt....

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego? Hello WP7!!

I'm not predicting the end of Nokia, I'm saying they made a huge ****in' mistake on this one. The gist of it is that they gave up their future POTENTIAL.

Long story short. They gave up their...

Don't know if I should laugh or cry. :P

"Hey, don't worry MS, we'll do the dirty work. You just continue to focus on raking in the cash from the ecosystem, we've got you covered."

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego?

They essentially gave up all their chances to build something unique. Good luck differentiating on "imaging" then. Merging Ovi Store with MS Marketplace? I think they pissed in their pants for warmth.

@Peet

That's ancient news by Internet standards and has been beaten to death already in hundreds of messages and blogs. :) There's nothing more to do except to wait for tomorrow when we finally...

Nice to see how the story evolves.. "cancels N9" has already transformed to "cancels only MeeGo phone". So maybe the next article jumps the gun and claims MeeGo is...

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego?

The partnership was announced already in August 2009. At one point Nokia had a ton of job listings looking for people to do the development. Interestingly, the Microsoft counterpart of the deal was...

Re: MeeGo reference devices - possible N9 prototypes?

Nokia doesn't seem to separate Linux and other devices with the RX and RM anymore. All those listed above are dug out from Meego sources, Linux kernel sources, bug reports etc. so they are or have...

Re: MeeGo reference devices - possible N9 prototypes?

Interesting, RM-716 is a new one. Others I've bumped into are

- RX-71
- RM-581
- RM-660
- RM-680
- RM-690
- RM-696.

Edit: A bit of googling with RM-716 also reveals an RM-742.

Re: Just to rub it in

I think you're a bit hasty to rub it in, unless your prediction was that media is going to speculate on Nokia adopting WP7 which really earns no bragging rights.

On a related note, I'm constantly...
