Just curious - I'm sure many have heard of the PinePhone - it has Mobian as a choice of operating system - can Mobian be installed as a container? Mobian operates well as a mobile desktop...

Thank you both. Unfortunately I was dumb and assumed my kernel was fine - it wasn't. Sorry for wasting your time.

I have no idea how to recompile a kernal, so I think this is the end for me....
