Re: Nokia laying off people
The center cannot hold.
Take a corporate policy that costs $X million, but without which the company would go bankrupt in 5 years. Sooner or later, someone will realize they can 'save the company...

Re: Is there an audiophile in the house?
Yeah, sorry, I should have said discrete vs. integrated circuity. What matters more than both, is, you're right, the care taken to put them together to cut down on interference.
The relevance to...

Re: Is there an audiophile in the house?
Clearly, what he meant by "Earbuds" was "consumer-grade stuff that came with the device", and not "IEMs" as a whole.
N800 sounds fine on my Grado SR-80s: very little (if any) hiss that I can...

Re: Is there an audiophile in the house?
As far as the cable goes, I haven't had a problem (so far) with getting decent audio out from the n800. But that design has given me problems insofar as only Nokia's earbud headset (that I know of)...

Re: Is there an audiophile in the house?
Your ears can't tell the difference, or you don't have the cans to tell the difference? Cheapest solution: research the matter, and find a pair of headphones that suits your listening style. Maybe...

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
Yeah, but even avoiding levels 0-3, the estimated size is several times larger than the actual size. Faster db access would really help too (along with Winmapper). Maybe v3 will have to do a...

Re: Xournal 0.4.1 coming to OS2008/Chinook
Super-cool port. When I'm not using the n800, I plan on running a test: put xournal in backgroundedand test battery life. I suspect it's not optimized. But I could be just wrong.
So thanks for...

Re: I'm off! Have fun with the N8x0!
Hey, the Eee looks cool, and quite handy. x86 architecture means you can run a ton of programs directly. It's cheap, and just the solution needed for a second PC.
Microsoft and Asus' announcement...

Re: Please help me decide: n800 or iPod Touch
1. Yes. 2. My N800 is "off" about as often as my celphone is.
3. Theoretically quite easy. The more esoteric you get, the rougher it is. 4. It works. They're earbuds. Quality is pretty good on real...

Re: Considering getting an n800
I have. os2008 beta and skype sucked. Now (=official release) it works great, with even fewer bugs than os2007. So, yeah, you're buying one. We don't say that to everybody; just those that will...

Re: Opera for OS2008?
MicroB is absolutely lousy at handling images. Images slow the thing down to the point where I suspect a crash, kinda like what opera did with Flash-heavy sites, MicroB does with image-heavy ones.

Yes, I too got a notice that the n800 was discontinued. It wouldn't surprise me, but then again, you can still buy new n770s, so I expect to see them for sale for a while now.

Re: +/-? about upgrading
Yup, there is. So all we need to say here is that, for all the bugs Skype has in OS2007, at least it "worked". Skype doesn't work with OS2008.
And by "work", I mean: give me meaningful access to...

Re: "N800 w\ bt kb" vs "N810"
Most people who start these sorts of threads are already sold. No you're not making a mistake.
I have a n800 with the ThinkOutside Stowaway. It's cool, but it has two annoyances:
1. The keyboard...

Re: +/-? about upgrading
When you get it, make sure your version of OS2007 is current (v. 4.2007.38-2). Many n800s currently available have the previous version, which can corrupt SDHC cards. So in any case, you will need to...

Re: "N800 w\ bt kb" vs "N810"
I dunno, for me a laptop replacement that I can put in my pocket is key.
n810 is cool, but currently the n800 price is such a steal.

Re: On switching to VOIP even on the go
Ciao anidel,
I suppose it depends on how much you use your phone.
Some possible snags:
A. Latency. 3G connections give a lot of bandwidth, but they're not all super-responsive. Skype/In/Out is...

The instructions that came with the TO keyboard include one other step that you're missing.
You need to put the TO KB into discoverable mode: when it's...
