Re: The successor of Nokia N900 - Pyra (Well, sort of)

As sulu said, that would not bother me. IMO people walking around with devices the size of paving slabs pushed to their ears or holding them up to make videos of their kids look much more ridiculous.

Re: Maemo-Leste pre-alpha announcement

Continuing on the wind theme, I like it.

Your link does not answer the question explicitly but gives a locale that at least suggests the answer. That's good enough for me, thanks.

Re: Maemo-Leste pre-alpha announcement

A very important question: how do you pronounce Leste? "Les-teh" or "less tea"?

Re: It's the final countdown!

The best vibrator I've ever had was on Motorola phones. Not just a single model, all Motorola phones had excellent vibrators. So much so that when i read on some forum back in early noughties a post...

Re: Rostelecom investment in Jolla

You are absolutely right! I totally overlooked Mark's departure and did not make the obvious connection between that and the virtual disappearance of Jolla apologists. I never gave a hoot about Mark...

Re: It's the final countdown!

Yes, US parts. The OS, to be specific. At least that was my understanding.

Re: It's the final countdown!

Have you read the article?

"The move was sparked by ZTE’s violation of an agreement that was reached after it was caught illegally shipping U.S. goods to Iran."

In all fairness, he did not say they make money. Only that they want to.

Re: N9 turns off when SIM card is inserted

A Chinese "new" is usually nothing of the sort. It is most likely a refurbished unit sold as new.

I have an N9 but I cannot claim to be an expert and I have never flashed it. But from what I have...

Re: N9 turns off when SIM card is inserted

Guessing is the only thing we can do, given the information available.

Connecting to a GSM network = a large spike in current drain. Just inserting the SIM card on its own should do nothing of the...

Re: Rostelecom investment in Jolla

In the risk of being accused of off-topicing the thread again...

I have noticed a (to me, a positive) trend. The "leave Jolla alone, they are saints, our saviours, who can do nothing wrong" camp...

Re: WhoGo Maps

There have been a number of occasions when I was not navigating to any specific place, just a general area "somewhere around the centre".

Who runs the heuristics and makes assumptions depends on...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Indeed. Can I run [an application of my choice that is vital for me] on OS A? No, I can't. Can I run it on OS B? Yes, I can. Conclusion, I don't care what's under the bonnet. OS A is rubbish, OS B is...

Re: WhoGo Maps

Yes, they do.

But I think it could be even simpler than that. If you type in a single entry (for example "Frankfurt am Main", to give an example of a single entry that is not a single word),...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

In addition to what sulu said, one's definition of "quality" may differ. By most people's definitions, quality is about stability, reliability, ability to perform desired tasks, even aesthetics. "I...

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized

Have you tried a downgrade? I do not believe it is a software issue but you clearly do, so if you are willing to flash again and again, why not flashing 1.2 to verify?

For what it's worth, I...

Re: WhoGo Maps

A funny observation. As mentioned earlier (https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1543472#post1543472), I had some surprising routing results. So I tried it again, to route me to Edinburgh. It's not...

Granted, I am not the greatest salesman on earth. That's why I am not one in my daytime job. But it's not just me, Jolla itself markets Android support as the main selling point. "Hey, we have this...

Re: Sailfish Android version update

That's what I've been saying for at least four years. Android support literally killed Sailfish. Jolla itself as much as markets the OS as not much more than a shell for Android.

In case anyone is...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Could it be because they make hardware to an already existing OS made by someone else? Whereas Jolla tries the opposite? It does not explain Fairphone, though.

I don't know.

Maybe I misunderstood, but in the context of your post denigrating ARM, I took your claim, the one that I quoted, as, "The only OS to ever run properly on ARM will be Android. Ever."...
