Re: N900 physical recovery (Getting your phone back!) [HOWTO]

@ecksun
Thanks! I was just trying to get this to go directly to an ssh session, and yours works very nicely.

I agree that putting it in the disable echo reply script is not the prettiest method,...

Re: N900 physical recovery (Getting your phone back!) [HOWTO]

I'm on T-Mobile Netherlands, and even accessing the webserver on the public IP seems to work. Sucks that it doesn't work the same way for everyone.

It got me thinking though, if instead of the...

Re: N900 physical recovery (Getting your phone back!) [HOWTO]

As would i, but since it's not available yet i still wanted a way to get it back. Using this guide when a deamon is available will allow you to even install it if it's still lost.
Think of this as...

Re: N900 physical recovery (Getting your phone back!) [HOWTO]

@craftyguy:

In testing this i was consistently able to setup a connection using the public IP, but this might not work for your provider.
Instead you could go the reverse port forwarding route....

Re: N900 physical recovery (Getting your phone back!) [HOWTO]

Re: I lost my N900, what can I do to recover it?

I've had these fears and put some measures in place to have a shot at recovery.
Your story gave me the boost to write it all up and give others that option. Here's the howto....

N900 physical recovery (Getting your phone back!) [HOWTO]

Alright, i think i speak for a lot of us that losing our phones would be disastrous. Either because you lose it, or it was stolen. Nobody wants to go through that.

I've made some strides in making...

Re: read cellID from N900 using python?

Works like a charm! Thanks!

It also seems to shutdown the GPS chipset after it's done.

The only issue is when it can't get a fix, you'll need to force quit.

Re: GPS/SMS in command line

I'm trying something similar, and have gotten a part of it working.

First, setup a reverse ssh connection to one of your local machines (this seems like a good tutorial to do this)...

Re: Map N900 directory or drive to Windows

You can do it in Linux with sshfs, which allows you to mount an ssh "share" as a mount anywhere you want. I use it a lot, and it works like a charm (phone still in pocket and put music on it at full...

Re: shell keyboard problem

Works like a charm.

The reason for this behavior is to make special characters like "Ã" or "Â" (try typing the letter "A" after selecting a special char).

Re: N900 bad performance?

Also a good tip: enlarge your cache. Helps a lot with just about any flash content.

Go to a webbrowser window, tap the top bar, select "settings" and set the "Memory cache size (MB)" to 40.
