Re: July Update 1.0.8.X

Quite right. Not sure what I was doing wrong before, but now I can see it. Big improvement :)

Re: July Update 1.0.8.X

Reading both that and the French original on which it is based, I wasn't able to get this working. Only difference I found is that the French original says to reboot, whereas the English-language...

Re: July Update 1.0.8.X

Nothing yet, so now we play the [irrationally impatient] waiting game.

Save as draft on minimise - nice.

Some calendar improvements, too:

Good long list of bugfixes, too, although reading...

Re: Advanced text entry on Sailfish (Swype or similar)

Yes. I'm actually OK with the terminal input on Jolla. I don't use it enough to have great ideas about how it could be improved, but when I do use it I think it's pretty good. The terminal itself...

Re: July Update 1.0.8.X

+1 for click divider to explode to show free time, but I would be happy with just having a glanceable read-only agenda at the top level of the OS for now.

Re: Help Getting Jolla Phone

"Someone offered him more" - sounds like something my ex-realtor would have said.

Hypothetically, we could say that I got my Jolla to Canada by having family in the UK buy it. Perhaps I got it...

Re: Advanced text entry on Sailfish (Swype or similar)

Well, this makes a lot of sense. I hadn't considered that as a use-case. As for me, I like to keep my work out of my personal device, so my terminal-on-Jolla usage is limited to doing occasional...

Re: Advanced text entry on Sailfish (Swype or similar)

Genuine curiosity: what made it an awful experience for you? I agree that it was a pain for any sort of terminal stuff but for writing in English (as I mostly do) I found it quick and accurate. The...

Re: Advanced text entry on Sailfish (Swype or similar)

Yes, but I've already explained in this thread why I don't think that is a useful point of view, i.e. as soon as we discuss it here, it's not a secret so you may as well ask.

If this...

Re: July Update 1.0.8.X

First: thank you w00t for taking the time and trouble to engage here [again], even though this is not an official Jolla support channel. I appreciate it a great deal, and I am sure that others do as...

Re: July Update 1.0.8.X

Perhaps this is the update where they finally make the calendar functionality useful? You know, with notifications for appointments, appointments which display at the correct time, and some way of...

Re: Advanced text entry on Sailfish (Swype or similar)

Hmm. Was this in English, or another language? I've only used Swype on N9 in English and I found the experience mostly very pleasing. One or two words consistently guessed wrong, but other than that...

Re: Advanced text entry on Sailfish (Swype or similar)

Not sure if you're joking, but if you're serious: there is already a long discussion here in a public forum about whether or not it's safe to release this software. Swype's legal department can see...

Re: 1.0.7.16 is here !

Since this update I am mostly very happy with my Jolla. I have only two serious problems remaining:

No 3G possible in North America. Radio doesn't cover enough bands. OK, so that's a hardware...

Re: 1.0.7.16 is here !

Argh! This is quite correct. As previously mentioned, I am in an area where 3G frequency is not compatible with Jolla radio hardware, but 2G and LTE signal is.

I just made a call, which took a...

Re: 1.0.7.16 is here !

I got a bit over-excited when I read this:

...and thought that gapless playback had arrived, but I tested and of course it hasn't. I guess I saw what I wanted to see. Fingers crossed for the...

Re: 1.0.7.16 is here !

Yes. I'm in Canada and using LTE. I was already using it before this update with the hack, but couldn't make or receive phone calls. Now I can, sort of (see edit below).

Downloaded a 25MB file in...

Re: 1.0.7.16 is here !

I can finally make & receive phone calls without being stuck on 2G internet! Thank you Jolla! :)

(If that makes no sense to you, then bear in mind that the Jolla radio is not compatible with...

Re: thp's amazing billboard app: equivalent for AMOLED Lumia?

Thanks - that's useful. Not Billboard, for sure, but still some customisation options. I don't know WP at all, but I'll tell him to poke around in the Settings and check out the Glance Backgrounds...

Question thp's amazing billboard app: equivalent for AMOLED Lumia?

No, I haven't gone and bought a Lumia; I remain one of the tinfoil hat brigade who go in for the crazy conspiracy theory that Elop will one day jump back to Microsoft, taking the juicy bits of Nokia...

Re: google calendar sync

OK, enough talking to myself in this thread.

...but I fixed the issue I was having!

To resolve the issue where the removed calendar would not re-create, I deleted my Google account from the...

Cool Re: google calendar sync

So the calendar is based on mkcal (https://github.com/mer-packages/mkcal) and the sqlite db lives at: /home/nemo.local/share/system/privileged/Calendar/mkcal/db

There is also a second file there...

Re: google calendar sync

Thanks, but this isn't working for me - partly due to my experimentation, no doubt, but there is a definite lack of configurability even after the update.

Somehow I've managed to delete my Google...

Re: google calendar sync

No joy first time around. I'm at work, so I don't have time to dig into terminal errors right now.

If anyone wants this for themselves, I found this useful-looking blog post, which I will try to...

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

I thought it was very weird that when I open the 10th app, I can't see it in the multi-tasking pane. I agree with abyzthomas that there should be some way of getting to it without seeking the app...
