Your server is not openvpn so you cannot use openvpn client either. I don't know which vpn system uses those credentials so I don't know which client to use either, but hopefully somebody else does.

It's more about how you use it. For example desperately installing stuff from extras-devel is guaranteed to cause troubles.

There used to be very simple text mode ui, but it wasn't exactly command line interface and it wouldn't work the you are hoping for. So the answer is no.

Most likely you didn't have standard PR1.3 but with careless apt-get (or maybe faster application manager) usage you had uninstalled/replaced system libraries.

It is possible to have two openvpn connections open at the same time, no problem. If I understood correctly you wish have them open always automatically. It is possible too, but not with OpenVPN...
