Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

Coverage varies, but where Google Maps is good, it's really good, way ahead of the competition.

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

No, it's against Google's terms.

It is translatable. But, sorry, I didn't check, it is already translated to German in Transifex, but that has been after the last release. So, the issue will...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

No need. Night icons is a known issue, likely to be fixed eventually. The translation issue just means that the German translation is incomplete, anyone can fix that...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

Found it now in the web demo. Looks the same as I remember: full of continues and slight turns when there's no actual maneuver and not quite descriptive of the actual maneuvers.

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

I hadn't noticed, seems like they might have turn-by-turn directions, even though they are not displayed on their web demo. I'll look into it.

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

Well, here's a summary of the routing providers off the top of my head.

MapQuest Open: probably a deprecated service after MapQuest's revamp a while back: "They are currently still maintained...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

Interesting. Good for development and offline use, I guess, but quite impossible for online service use. Mapbox's terms and pricing are very difficult, e.g. "You may only use our Navigation SDK or...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

You can type in anything you like, the included few are just some common examples. Note that the default Foursquare provider doesn't list and review places like toilets or parking lots, so for those,...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

The GL version does not work on Jolla 1 on account of the old and weak GPU, so yes. I expect I'll fix any issues with new SFOS releases, but, to mimize the work, new features would go to just one...

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

0.34 released with rinigus's voice navigation code merged and a couple smaller issues (https://github.com/otsaloma/poor-maps/releases) fixed. While testing on my new Sailfish X, the route rendering...

Re: Laufhelden - Sport Tracker for Sailfish OS

At best Poor Maps has been maybe around 40000, recently around 20000 a month. But I have never respected the cache retention terms and basically users have likely had tiles cached a bit too long. In...

Re: Pan Transit

Yes, that's how it already works. Filters are not saved for stops, but are saved for favorites. Just add a favorite and after that filter, it should be saved.

Re: Purism Librem Phone

There was a post about a month ago on GNOME's desktop-devel-list looking for people interested in writing the mobile UI and asking if GNOME as a project was interested in participating. So, my guess...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

I think you should put as much as possible of the mouse/gesture stuff into your module, so that usual things would work out of the box and we'd avoid duplicating code in each app. As an app author,...

Re: Pan Transit

A map view for Pan Transit is planned (https://github.com/otsaloma/pan-transit/issues/3) -- to show stops, routes and vehicles. There's no synergy there with Poor Maps, so no merge.

Re: [Announce] Poor Maps

Once we have vector maps in use, we'll likely tilt the map in navigation mode, which should already improve the situation. After that you can remind us to revisit the issue.

Re: Pan Transit

For the Digitransit router in Poor Maps, I have also added the corresponding geocoder that knows the names of all stops.

Re: Pan Transit

While it would be nice to have routing in the same app, I don't want to duplicate code -- we already have routing in Poor Maps with a similar Python plugin interface. If want to see how it works,...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

PyOtherSide provides a QML type, yes, but, PyOtherSide is part of SFOS and on the Jolla store whitelist of QML imports. Getting on that whitelist is unlikely and also store apps probably can't ship...

Re: App for vector renderer maps, using OpenGL ES 2.0

Nope. We're not using PySide. We're using PyOtherSide, which is just a very thin bridge between QML and Python, no access to non-QML Qt at all (that's what makes it fast).

As to the original...
