Have the same problem with the Nokia N900 headphones. With other headphones it works.
A workaround for this problem is to put an extension cable between your headphones and the N900.

Maybe it is my python installation. But when I try to stop a recording, the icon disappears.
Furthermore, python complains about timeout_add_seconds():

Maybe the program "recaller" can record from FM Radio.
Until now I did not have much luck with Recaller in PR 1.2.

It seems that you have a problem with the firewall and not VNC.
You can define a firewall rule for that on your PC.
Another option is to tunnel VNC port 5900 through ssh.
